Location Details

Llanberis sits at the foot of Mount Snowdon and is renowned as a base from which walkers, climbers, mountain-bikers and even rail-passengers can explore the wonder of this ancient mountain. Llanberis has grown since Victorian times, in conjunction with one of the two lakes that sandwich it, Llyn Padarn. Llanberis was a slate mining town and quarried slate from the mountain across the lake itself. Now, the redundant slate quarries merge with the surrounding lakes and forests to provide something of interest for all, whatever the weather. The 800-acre Padarn Country Park is the perfect place to explore what the countryside and the local heritage have to offer, including two sites of Special Scientific Interest, a local nature reserve and a wide range of water-sports. If that isn't enough for you, you can always ascend the heights by taking the Snowdon Mountain Railway, see the Ceunant Mawr Waterfall and visit First Hydro's Electric Mountain.

Famous for its choirs, stunning mountain ranges and beautiful valleys, this wonderful country has something for everyone. From Snowdonia in North Wales to the Brecon Beacons and the Pembrokeshire Coast in the South.

Reviews

Grössere Einkäufe sollte man vorab in Bangor tätigen. Für den täglichen Bedarf kann man hinunter nach Llanberis fahren.

We have just spent a fantastic week here as a family group of 14 adults plus 2 children. The owners have thought of everything, down to the smallest detail. Kids toys, DVDs, games room and the high quality finish and amenities go to making this one of the finest of its kind we have stayed in over the last 4 years. Our group ranged in age from 5 months, with a 2 year old up to our oldest at 92. For everyone right through the age range, the development has given something for everyone's comfort and safety. Just a couple of steps from the rear off road car park to the main part of the old chapel, where the kitchen and main bedroom with walk in shower for our elder statesman! We all loved Chapel Dinorwig and recommend it highly for anyone looking for a good sized accommodation to explore the wonderful surrounding attractions in this part of North Wales.

The whole place is lovely, fantastic views and beautifully restored. The living accommodation is open plan, good kitchen area with all facilities including dishwasher, large modern oven, microwave, coffee maker, fridge freezer and vast selection of pots , pans utensils etc. All good quality, could not need more. There’s a large dining table, breakfast bar and comfortable settees for relaxing. Included flatscreen tv, DVD player and sound system. Downstairs bedrooms all with on suite, a games room, laundry, sauna. Living floor (level 1) one bedroom, en suite and a common use toilet. Upstairs in loft 2 more bedrooms and shared bathroom. Beds and linen clean, comfortable and nice. There are some slight negatives, the floors are all tiled they were swept but not mopped so children’s feet quickly dirty. The soundproofing between the floors and between the rooms not good, and with a lot of persons and children noise levels in the living area were also high due to hard surfaces and no soft furnishings and curtains. Outside terrace, bbq, car park all good. No garden for children to play in, there is a small play park up the road but a lot of animal excrement spoilt this a bit. Having said all of the above, it was a great place, we had a lovely time and enjoyed our stay.

Capel Dinorwig is light and airy chapel conversion which is situated over the lake from Llanberis. It started life as a Calvinist Methodist chapel (1825-1980) but was converted into a holiday home in 2013. It really does provide a great base for walking and exploring the North Wales coast (you can walk Snowdon from here) whilst featuring many creature comforts. LOCATION: Whilst it is set in some stunning countryside we all struggled to find it using the postcode in the satnav. Therefore I'd suggest that you use the directions provided instead. ACCOMMODATION: The Middle floor (accessed at ground level from the rear of the property) provides open plan living which accommodates a lounge, kitchen, dining room and one en suite bedroom (large double). Since it is open plan then sound does travel and it can be a little noisy but you do get used to it. The Top floor boasts 2 twin bedrooms with a shared bathroom in the eves. The Lower floor accommodates 5 bedrooms (3 double & 2 twin with en suite - only one has a bath, the rest have showers), a play room (table tennis, table football and TV), a laundry and a sauna. ACCESS: There doesn't appear to be any wheelchair access but those with mobility issues could probably be accommodated in the one bedroom on the middle floor. (3 steps). FURNITURE: Dining table etc are made from old pews and look great. Bedroom furniture seems to be sourced from Ikea. PARKING: Parking for 5 cars with ease. WI-FI: It's OK but don't expect high speeds. HEATING: We never did get to grips with the heating and so we turned it off and opneed the one upstairs window that we could access (top floor). CHILDREN: This would be OK for children since there are 3 child guards that can be installed to keep them away from the stairs (from an adults prospective I'd suggest removing them, if there are no children, as they add an extra lip to the top of the stairs) FOOD SHOPPING: There is a Cost Cutter in the next village, another Cost Cutter at the Texaco station on A4244, small stores in Llanberis or a Tesco Extra in Bangor. LAUNDRY: Previous week's dirty sheets and towels are stored here for washing early in the following week. We weren't disturbed by the work. SAUNA: In our experience there is room for 6 people, at any one time, in comfort OTHER: There are some really nice touches; a piano, an OS map centred on the property, a supply of dish washer tablets, coffee, tea and Welsh cakes (to say welcome). ATTACHED HOUSE: Is also a holiday let. DO REMEMBER that most bedrooms are downstairs so don't be surprised if there is someone walking just outside your window when you open the curtains. All in all it's a great place to spend a week. Enjoy.

This is a fabulous property but after a long hard walk in Snowdonia I want a hot shower! Sorry but hot water is a must! The first night I had to boil a kettle for a strip wash and the second day even though I was one of the first of our party to take a shower it wasn't hot.

We had a wonderful family holiday at Capel Dinorwig, 3 children, 3 teenagers and 7 adults all had a lovely break. Walks in Snowdonia, trips to some of the Zip World sites, the Slate museum and Caernarfon Castle all with a warm, clean and comfortable base to return to. Would highly recommend :)

My daughter found this for us when she was staying over one weekend and we had been looking for a place to have a family and friends get-together for ages.. it was perfect! The interior of the building is architecturally very pleasing - a converted chapel with light pouring in to the living spaces from long windows that all the children in our party were utterly drawn to - they sat on the wide window sills reading, playing, just looking out at the mountains., even the 3 year old. The bedrooms are lovely; supercomfy beds, walk in showers, lots of hot water. The living spaces are well equipped for big gatherings with comfortable and sociable seating areas and long tables both inside and out for a good Viking feast , should you want one, and the kitchen is excellently equipped- we did lots of cooking and everything we needed was there -even a balloon whisk (which I needed to make a sauce on the first night and thought, will there be one? -and there it was!) This is also a big enough place for peopel not to be all in the same place at the same time - there is a games room and other space to sit quietly if you want. Looking out of the windows was one of my pleasures, every day - you can see Snowdon and you can take a lot of great walks direct from the Capel. There is a disused slate quarry (with 'Electric Mountain' underneath) round which you can take a walk just 15 minutes stroll away. We also walked down to Llanberis through the country park (bussed it back to the previous village, Deiniolen and walked the last mile to the Capel, getting fab views) but there are buses right the way back if you time it right. There is also a little playground a short walk away which the 3 year old loved. My son in law said it was probably the best view in the world for pushing a swing. This is a very special place, and Caroline, the owner, has clearly made so much effort to make great holidays for her guests (so many thoughtful touches) - several of us said we would like to stay there forever, it was so lovely. It's perfect in itself, but also well located for trips out, if you can tear yourself away- we went to Beddgelert and Portmeirion, both of which are quite easy distances. Highly recommended.

The people have put a lot of effort into this property (there is a dvd with pictures of the work) it has been done to a high spec as well. I met the land lady and she is a very friendly and helpful person. The propery is open and spactious upstairs with most the bedrooms down stairs. he views are stunnign and breath taking with a view of snowdonia from the front door (weather dependent) Only down side was the internet in the area is shocking 200k but there just waiting for bt to install fiber in the area so once that is done the property would be perfect.

"WOW!" every one of us used that word on entering. It is perfect for a large group, very communal with it's open plan living area & huge table that seated all 16 of us together plus two toddlers. Plenty to do in the area & a brilliant café nearby too ( though a group of walkers thought we were the café & sat down ready to order on our outside table!). We never tired of taking in the stunning views from the Chapel windows too. The biggest downside was the lack of mirrors, sounds petty but with a large number of females staying it did prove a real issue! None at all in most bedrooms so all of us formed regular queues outside the three bedrooms that had them so we could do makeup & hair! Seemed so strange to of thought to of put a small shelf under a mirror with a plug in these rooms ( ideal for straighteners )& yet they didn't bother to even put just a mirror in all the others, yes there were mirrors in the bathrooms but these steamed up and couldn't use electrical items near them. One big communicable full length mirror in the hallway would be good too, not a single one of those to be had anywhere! Perhaps vampires own this property??? The showers were fantastic but an addition of caddies to hold soap & shampoo in them would be useful. The hot water ran out sometimes but there were a lot of us having showers at the same time so to be expected. Dishwasher is a nightmare as rack falls off the bottom runners when full, despite, earlier reviews telling them this, owners have still not repaired it , drove us all mad! Seems sad to complain about these things as the property is gorgeous and the owners have put lots of thoughtful additions into it, like the toys and toddler kitchen. It is spotless and kitchen is well equipped. But if they put the above problems to rights it would be perfect!!! We would come again and recommend it highly (already have done and friends are booking it ) but would tell people to take mirrors and extension cables which really you shouldn't have to do. We never got to use the gorgeous looking fire, we had fantastic weather!

The converted chapel was stunningly beautiful as were the views through the arch windows. The games room and sauna were both well used and the overall spacious accommodation meant that everyone could totally relax and chill out. It was a wonderful holiday for us all.

A group of friends recently stayed here. What a gorgeous setting, beautifully renovated Chapel. Sauna, games room, lounge had stunning views out over Snowdon. Plenty of room for 16 people. The bedrooms with their ensuite bathrooms had very comfy beds and soft bedding. Location although very rural, was fine. It was easy to visit surrounding towns, plus some great walking areas too! I'd love to stay here again some day. There was just one niggle, it's a shame to even mention it, but the dishwasher was a nightmare, the bottom rack wouldn't slide into the washer, even only lightly loaded. It's something that needs repairing as when there's a big group staying, it really is needed. On the plus side the kitchen had everything else you needed.

We found the cottage to be spacious and open plan. Each of the bedrooms had its own bathroom and very comfortable beds. We also found the addition of a drinks fridge a wonderful bonus.

Loved the location, the modern decor and high spec items (TV/audio/sauna etc.). Old school with a modern twist. Definitely will come back again with a large group. Also perfect for getting to the mountains and also the towns whilst feeling a sense of isolation. Amazing place!

I booked this amazing property for my husbands 60th surprise. The standard is superb, the owners have thought of everything. There were gorgeous personal details, quality bedding, towels and high tech equipment. In a wonderful location with stunning views and walks. This is a glorious property which has left my husband and l with fabulous memories. We absolutely adored this chapel.

We feel that we don't want to tell everyone how lovely this place is, for fear that we will not be able to book again, once the secret is out - it is truly a lovely place. Clean, neat and perfect for families.

Rated by Mrs Wilkes reviewed on 17th June 2015

It is with great reluctance that we post a review on this holiday rental for fear of not being able to book this again because we know how popular it will become. This is really a very special place - clean, beautiful and lovely. We stayed just for a short time and we're all mortified to leave. It offers such an amazing space with plenty of lovely bedrooms all with really comfortable duvets and pillows and such comfortable beds too- the en suite shower rooms for each of the rooms downstairs are wonderful and we all had hot water in wet room style showers. It also has a sauna which is wonderful to use when you have been out walking all day. Washing facilities were great too. The dining room boasts an amazing table which fits everyone and the kitchen comes fully equipped with everything- even a fantastic coffee machine. The lounge also fits everyone in, around a log burner that sadly we didn't get chance to use as we were lucky to have good weather- we would definitely recommend it to anyone and look forward to going back with our dog Charlie in tow very soon.... But Shhhh don't tell anyone
