We booked The Dingle via Sykes and I had read previous reviews about the property not being clean so was a little apprehensive before we arrived. The description on the website said street parking on a first come first served basis but when we arrived we found we could fit a Vauxhall Corsa on the short driveway (if the passengers got out first) and we left another vehicle on the white no parking line across the drive with no issues. The period property has its original fireplaces and is furnished with traditional decor, I actually love this style but I can understand why some would call it dated. Whilst the property had been cleaned there were significant cobwebs throughout. There was a welcome tray on arrival which was greatly appreciated after a long journey. The weather was beautiful so we moved chairs from the dining room into the conservatory for the 8 of us to be in a light airy space looking out on the garden rather than the traditional lounge. The beds were really comfy and I cooked two meals for 8 people during our stay with no issues (didn’t find all the cleaning equipment in the drawer under the kitchen sink until the 3rd day). We had a couple of BBQs using disposable trays, a bbq stand would have been useful and we would have liked some wine flutes and pint glasses rather than the selection of sherry glasses that are available. We are 3 generations of the same family so the fact that the only upstairs bathroom is en-suite through the master didn’t matter to us as we are used to the kids walking in, maybe an issue for multiple families staying together. The beds were really comfy, linen (seaside themed) and towels were clean. Each bedroom had a fan and there were a couple of extension leads as overall there seems to be a lack of sockets (to charge the kids tech). What sets this property apart is its location to the beach, town centre and promenade - all an easy walk - so once you arrive you don’t need to use your car again. The 3.30pm check in and 10.30am check out were perfect for us and there was no overnight noise. The bins were emptied on Tuesday and Wednesday as we had moved the car from the drive. A point to note is that there is currently an issue with the plumbing, the kitchen hot tab has a significant trickle and when the downstairs toilet is flushed the kitchen tap vibrates with a loud noise, we wedged a plastic cup under it to slow the drip and prevent the noise but long term it will require a plumber to investigate. Also the garden is not secure, our dog had to stay on his lead whilst in the garden, the gates don’t shut if the car is on the drive but also there appears so be some waste land to the left of the property that is not fenced off. In an ideal world the garden could be split to form a fenced rear garden that runs from the second sitting room to the conservatory using the rear brick wall to form a secure area including the patio for children and a dog to play in, particularly if eating outside. The rotary clothes dryer in the side garden kept falling over, we wedged it whilst drying towels but this also needs some attention. Overall we had an excellent holiday, we would love to stay again in the future. None of the issues mentioned would deter us from staying again.
First time away with family in Covid season. NO evidence of any cleaning regime to make the place Covid safe. First 24 hours very stressful as we tried to clean up . It was very grubby, not even "normal" clean, so we were very anxious when we saw the state of the place on arrival. No mattress covers provided until we complained Bits of food left in fridge and freezer. I could go on. We had to just hope we were safe. Echo the review from November 2019 and there have obviously been no noticeable improvements Sykes cottages take no responsibility to award compensation
A spacious home with plenty of room for a large family to relax. An ideal location, five minutes walk to beach and town. Plenty of space in the garden but it is not secure for a dog, as you cannot shut the gate with a car parked. The garden needs some care, it would benefit from a regular gardener Space for two cars, a short car on the drive and one on the road. We were three adults and four teens aged 12-17. In July, the back of the house got very hot but was ok with the windows left open. It would be good if the owner supplied a fan for each room. There were several maintenance issues which we have emailed the agent about but these did not stop us enjoying the holiday and we intend to rebook. An airer would be useful to dry clothes indoors, although there is a tumble drier and clothes line outside. This house is comfortable but not smart and pristine. Bedding looks new. Kitchen appliances look fairly new. Comfortable beds. Comfortable but well used sofas. Essential kitchen crockery and cutlery is available. Three extension leads provided. The WiFi works. Information folder is basic and could be improved with local information. No visitors book, we wondered why.
This House is in one of the best locations in Cromer, Sadly once inside we felt very let down the house was very cold decor and furniture was very tired once in the kitchen things get worse the freezer was unusable the door is faulty and thus needs defrosting pots pans and cutlery were dirty and chipped, there was no bedding for the bed settee, the downstairs loo had no hand basin, the downstairs showeroom had no heating the carpet gripper on the stairs is dangerous the full glass doors were not toughened the radiator in the bathroom did not work the wooden windows were wet inside and puddles on window sills, the waste bins were full so we had to bag our rubbish and leave in the very cold damp conservatory, a very disappointing stay for our family. with a little care and TLC this holiday let could be one of the best
Lovely house with a homely feel. There was plenty of space for all 9 of us. It sits in a great location. We will definitely be booking again in the future.
