Northumberland is a heady combination of fishing villages, market towns, sandy beaches, magnificent castles and historic Hadrian's Wall, tied together by beautiful countryside and abundant wildlife.
We enjoyed our 2 weeks at the cottage, many thanks to Sue and John for the extensive welcome pack. The weather wasn't hot enough to take advantage of the lovely garden and sun loungers but we had plenty of outside seating. Towels, washing up liquid, cloth, iron and board provided. There is a full electric cooker, microwave, fridge with freezer box and you have access to a washer and tumble dryer. The Widdrington Inn is a minute away and is good for meals {check opening times as we found it was closed Sunday evening and all day Monday} Morrisons is the nearest large supermarket (inc petrol) 5 minutes down the road to Amble but there are plenty of supermarkets around the area. It is worth visiting Amble market on Sunday, Craster is a lovely old fishing village and Alnwick has a lovely fish and chip shop (Carlo's) where they also have delicious ice cream. Fantastic coastal walks and beaches make this a favourite area to visit.
The accommodation was excellent and in a super location for exploring or revisiting the Northumberland coast. The owners were on hand if you needed anything and they were lovely people. Being dog friendly was an advantage. It was so peaceful and there was more than adequate parking.
A very special holiday in a lovely cottage. The owners were friendly and had taken great care in organising and presenting their beautifully welcoming and well-appointed property. It was a truly dog-friendly cottage and the owners understood our needs very well. We really hope to visit again as Widdrington made a great base for exploring Northumberland. Lovely - thank you!

Bracken Barn is a lovely cottage with a nautical theme and a very friendly host, very welcoming. The beach was magnificent and only 3 mins by car, or 40 min walk. Very dog friendly. All round enjoyable holiday .
A very well presented property in a good location with friendly owners on site who were not intrusive. Would definitely stay there again.
We stayed in this cottage for a week between Christmas and New Year and were not disappointed. The cottage is tastefully decorated and well equipped, even catering for our dog. The location is ideal, with a beautiful beach either a 40 minute walk or 5 minute drive away and a lovely pub next door.
This was a delightful cottage and ideally suited for trips out. The owners were extremely welcoming and helpful in every way. The décor throughout was bright and cheerful - even on the dull wet days we encountered. They welcomed our dog and she loved the various walks around and about. The pub, literally next door, served wonderful food and huge portions, and a visit to the farm shop is not to be missed. I would most definitely recommend Bracken Barn Cottage to all.
The cottage was perfect. The owners were the best of hosts, attentive but not invasive with a profuse welcome and eagerness to please. The cottage was perfectly sited near numerous long sandy beaches and lots of places and eateries which were dog friendly. I will definitely be going again and will be re-booking quickly as I think once people have been here they will come again.
