The pretty village of Beckford boasts many amenities, with an excellent country inn, Norman church and nature reserve, in one of the most unspoilt areas of England. The village sits on the Worcestershire/Gloucestershire border, close to the old market town of Evesham, famous for its horticulture. The regency spa town of Cheltenham, with its range of shops, cinemas, theatres, restaurants, pubs, and famous Gold Cup horse racing, is a short drive away.
Visitors to the Cotswolds have long treasured memories of charming towns and villages built from the famous honey-coloured stone, it now boasts a thriving community of contemporary artists working from studios and shops throughout the area.
We're very used to glamping but this was something else! We had the most relaxing time at the Secret Island Yurt, which is one of four yurts. This yurt offers complete privacy and beautiful views of the lake where I could watch the birds and wildlife all day. There is something so special about being close to nature, but in a lovely jacuzzi having a glass of wine! The yurt itself had everything you could need, but without wi-fi and TV so you can easily 'switch off'. There is a fully-kitted kitchen; toilet; radio; in-home cinema system with projector; a roll top-bath and sauna. We spent our days watching our favourite film from a gorgeous bath, followed by relaxing in the jacuzzi and sauna. The lovely owners have thought of everything so you can enjoy your stay any time of the year. There is a lovely lake viewing room at the front of the yurt - the perfect spot to read a book, watch the day go by and see the beautiful black swans. There are screens you can use in the outside area if it gets a bit windy but we didn't need them. We went in February and the yurt was lovely and warm. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend it to anyone else.
We booked this for our 30th Wedding Anniversary and we loved every minute. There are 4 yurts on the property but this one, as well as being on a little island, has a lake all to itself. We loved it so much we booked again for next year the day after we got back home! Accommodation • All the facilities were excellent although we didn't use the Sauna. • The wildlife was great with geese, ducks, heron, kingfishers, black swan and even deer. • You have the use of a lovely little boat with an electric motor, we went fishing on the lake in it most days. • Has a projector and DVD player with a screen that you can move to watch from either the living area or from the bed. Note there are already a lot of films that have been left be people. • The bed was extremely comfortable • Nice little dressing table • There's no storage for clothes so be prepared to live out of a suitcase. TIP: use the coat stand for hanging clothes Things to do • We'd recommend visiting Beckford Silk next door. • There’s a natural reserve opposite Beckford Silk, we can’t comment on it as we didn’t go there. • There’s a pretty church in the village • It's a good base for visiting lovely Cotswold villages • We enjoyed the tranquillity, and mostly did, fishing, bbqing, reading and lounging in the hot tub drinking wine and looking at the stars Shops • The local shop is a 10 min walk. The shop is a bit limited so don't rely on it. • There is an excellent shop a 5 min drive away called Teddington Stores that has a butcher’s inside so it's a great place to buy your BBQ food. There's also a coffee shop inside. • Morrisons is just outside Tewksbury BUT even though this isn’t very far it takes a while to get to as the traffic is so bad. Food • The local pub is a 20 min walk • The pub is excellent we had a fantastic Sunday lunch there, the drink prices are a bit steep though but as we are from Bristol we are used to that. • Beckford Silk next door has a great little cafe which does excellent food. • If you want to go for a special meal we would recommend 'My Great Grandfathers' in Tewksbury as we had one of the best meals we've ever had in there. • Make sure to bring plenty of food as once you've settled in you won't want to leave to do any shopping. Communication • The owners is very nice and willing to help with any questions or queries
The second time we have stayed at this wonderful yurt. It is a little piece of private heaven! Fantastic views and totally away from the outside world. Everything you need for a relaxing break, everything worked well, lighting, heating, kitchen. Hot tub and outside area well lit and warm. We will definitely return!!
The Yurt was just as advertised. It was clean and inside everything was as shown in the pictures. However the outside was a bit tired and could do with a bit more TLC. Fishing was excellent, Bed so very comfortable. It had all the amenities you will need. Cooker, Induction hob, Fridge, Freezer, Dishwasher, all in good order. Wonderful Chiminea. We toasted marshmallow and sat outside long into the evening. We just listened to music and fed the very friendly duck. Hot Tub would work well for a short while, then sort of give up. Not sure about the Sauna. I would much rather a good shower instead. But you can't have everything I guess. I would go back in an instance.
This was our 3rd vist to the Yurts. The 1st in The Secreat Island this place is just grand if you want to do nothing but chill out or if you like to walk then it has some fantastic country side. The owners are very frendly and helpful i would say the only thing i think could improve this one would be a gas BQ like the secreat island yurt has but thats just me being lazy to sit in the hot tub at night rain or shine no matter just MAGIC !
There are a lot of positives about this beautiful place... the nature, scenery, the two gorgeous geese and black swans who followed us everywhere, in particular. However, the reason I would not rebook are to do with the night traffic. It totally spoilt a serene, calm peaceful break. On the Thursday night of our break, I was awake from midnight til 4 am trying to work out where the traffic noise was coming from... if it was motorway, low flying aircraft or some sort of train. If you take earplugs for the nights you will have a wonderful week!!!
This place is absolutely fantastic. The view and the various birds including Black Swans are fabulous. There is no tv,or wifi, just peace and quiet. The Yurt is very comfortable. We have been here the last 2 years and will be going again next year. There are some nice Restaurants to dine at,I can recommend Ye Olde Hobnails Inn who serve an excellent carvery. There are 4 Yurts to choose from.Highly recomenmended
It was an unbelievable experience. Probably the most luxurious experience you can ever hope to associate with "camping." The hot tub was divine and the cinematic projector was an absolute winner!
Our holiday at the secret Island Yurt was absolutely fantastic, one of the best holidays I have ever had. It showed me the nature and beauty of England and reminded me why I still take holidays in my home country. The Yurt's facilities were amazing and the setting was true paradise, plus the owners are so welcoming and friendly and happy to give advice to us novice ramblers. I have already started planning when I can next go back; it was very hard to leave such a wonderful place.
Peaceful and quiet; the best sleep I have had in months. I love this place; it is absolute perfection. The lake, the wildlife and the yurt is absolutely amazing. I highly recommend staying here and cannot wait to return again someday. The owner is very nice and has obviously put in a lot of hard work to make this a little piece of heaven.
We loved our break at Secret Island Yurt. It was so peaceful and we were surrounded by wildlife, including the geese and swans who would greet us each morning! The hot tub was fantastic and we made use of the rowing boat on the lake, which was a unique experience. The yurt itself was very cosy, comfortable and really warm, even during the time we were there in late December and early January. There were all the amenities you'd need, delivered in a tasteful way. We plan to return in the summer and would certainly recommend to friends and family.
An absolute romantic retreat! It breaks my heart to unveil this Secret Island Yurt review as we want it all for ourselves! A perfect oasis! The Yurt is astonishingly spacious, very cosy with a nice warm touch to it and gorgeously decked out. The kitchen had everything you need, the bed was extremely comfortable, the projector was a treat to see our pictures together and the lake was magnificent. It was simply mesmerising looking out over the lake gazing at ducks, ducklings and swans. It was an overall amazing experience with someone I love, sitting under the stars in the hot tub in a dimmed light took us on a magical feel of peace and romance. Trust me you will not want to leave this fascinating fairyland! Highly recommended if you are looking for a romantic escape, we are definitely revisiting this amazing place soon.
Owner of Secret Island Yurt was fantastically welcoming. Secret Island Yurt is magnificent and the needs of a person staying there are extremely well-thought-out. It is clear that wisdom and experience has gone into the organisation of a wonderful experience. The owner of Secret Island Yurt was fantastically welcoming.
Liked everything, it was a lovely place, very relaxing. The owners have thought of everything to make our stay the best.
Our stay at Secret Island Yurt was one the most relaxing holidays I've ever had! The Yurt had everything we needed and more. The attention to detail in the décor and facilities was phenomenal. We particularly enjoyed using the hot tub and the rowing boat. The location was beautiful - our own private lake with wonderful wildlife literally on our doorstep!
A perfect place to escape, chill out and relax totally. You could park your car up and lock yourselves away for the week if you wished as the Yurt was equipped with all mod cons and had everything you needed - even a hot tub and sauna. There were excellent walks and wildlife to enjoy, we thoroughly enjoyed every minute we spent there. We will definitely be going again!
We were amazed by the setting and the luxury offered by Secret Island Yurt. You really do feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, with no sounds around but the wildlife. The Yurt itself was a far cry from what you'd expect 'glamping' with a full kitchen, comfy bed, ample seating and even cinema screen and projector. Outside, the seating, sun loungers, BBQ and hot tub make for absolute relaxation. We're desperate to go back and are already looking at dates.
A really well equipped property in an amazing location.
This was the most amazing holiday I've had for a long time. A beautiful tranquil setting, the perfect romantic getaway. And I mean perfect! We will definitely be returning.
