Fulking is a lovely Sussex village located in the South Downs National Park and dating back to just after the Norman invasion in 1066. There is a quaint country pub just outside the village called "The Shepherd and Dog" beside which is a spring, due to the constant flow of water from the chalk strata a small steam rises and travels uphill. The stream eventually flows out into a public tap and horsetrough, above which is a tiled inscription with a psalm in honour of John Ruskin a Victorian writer and philanthropist, definatley worth looking out for when visiting Fulking. Several of the houses in this Sussex village date back to the 1600s with a lot of them are half timbered. However Fulking is best known for it's beautiful countryside and proximity within the South Downs National Park. This is the perfect choice for walking and riding, whether by horse or cycle, with stunning views to admire as you stroll. .

With many quaint, seaside and market towns, historic sites and miles of glorious coastline to explore, Sussex has it all for a great holiday destination.
We recently spent a week at The Granary having chosen it due to its easy access to Brighton, Newhaven, Hollingbury and Bevendean where we would be visiting friends and family. The appartment was surprisingly spacious and very comfortable. Our dog was very at home in the location and the hosts were extremely friendly and welcoming (unlike the weather). Despite a lot of rain and strong winds we were still able to get out and enjoy the countryside and views as well as enjoyable visits to family and friends. All areas were accessed within 15 to 30mins. Plenty of local pubs (dog friendly) and supermarkets close by car. Definitely worth another visit when weather is nicer and the countryside can be enjoyed more fully.
The owners were very friendly, we had a great welcome. It was a lovely peaceful place to stay. It was clean and well equipped, and cosy and warm on cold winter nights. It was close to Brighton but surrounded by some lovely hills.
We loved the quietness and the rural setting of the property and its closeness to the Downs. Beautiful location and beautiful walks.
Owners extremely helpful and friendly. Quiet location and ideal for visiting the places we wanted to see.
Friendliness, welcoming, very clean, lovely views.
