Nestling at the head of Coniston Water, the pretty village of Coniston is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the Lake District National Park and makes a superb base for touring, with Hawkshead, Ambleside and Windermere just a short drive away. Superb walking, mountain biking and climbing is available locally on Coniston Old Man and Wetherlam, and the lovely woodland trails at Grizedale Forest. For water sports enthusiasts the quiet lake is ideal for dinghy sailing and canoeing, whilst the less active can enjoy a leisure cruise on the beautiful steam yacht 'Gondola'.
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
The cottage is in an idyllic location on the banks of Coniston and is perfect for launching boats, swimming and catching minnows. The cottage itself is much nicer and more spacious than the photos imply. I can’t imagine a better property in the Lakes for a memorable family holiday.
Stayed here with my sister and brother in law. Fantastic cottage very spacious and dog friendly too. Lots of walks to do from the door. 15 mins drive to Tarn Hows. 5 mins to Coniston. Had a great week with some good weather. Will return soon.
This house is stunning and very spacious, A lot of thought and care has gone into it. The decor, furnishings and quirky ornaments ooze quality and charm. The kitchen is huge and so well equipped. BUT a word of warning to dog ownwers, the garden is not secure. Down one side is a hedge, and my dogs only took 5 minutes to escape into the adjoining field. Thank goodness there were no sheep in it at the time or the consequences could have been bad. A couple of days later sheep were put in the field so I couldn't allow my dogs outside for the rest of the week. Children should also be supervised as there are slippery stone steps leading to a gate out onto the busy main road. The back garden down to the lake is fantastic and vital to dog owners for the first and last dog walks of the day, as there are no practical walks from the door due to the dangerous road with no footpath. TOP TIP...if you want to sleep in past 6am, sleep in the front bedroom, as the back bed is only a few feet from the road. But practicalities aside, overall my partner and I agree this is the nicest holiday rental we've ever stayed in, and we've stayed in a lot!
This bungalow is very, very comfortable. If I could afford to spend a year of my life here I definitely would.
Beautiful property. The peaceful location with it's own private jetty to Coniston Water was outstanding. Our children enjoyed pole fishing and sailing daily. A good location for walking.
Had a lovely stay in this beautiful well equipped bungalow, it was much larger than we imagined which was ideal as we were two families with a small infant. The views from the lake were stunning and we enjoyed having a drink down there just watching the wildlife. An ideal base to explore the Lake District and we certainly covered a lot in our week there.
We loved everything; the house, the close proximity to the lake. The owner was very helpful and the house was well equipped. We loved the big kitchen to sit in, the AGA cooker. There was loads of hot water, great showers and the option of a bath. We just loved it!
A perfect cottage, in a perfect location. We would highly recommend this beautiful place for a getaway of total relaxation and luxurious comfort.
Could not have asked for anything more and will go again.
Rented this property for 4 days in May so that we could enjoy holiday with our son, his wife and two grandchildren aged 4 and 2 so 6 in all. Well the property was everything we hoped for (from the description and pictures) but much much more. We were allowed in early as no one was staying in the property the day before. We were given newly baked bread, butter, and milk and a bottle of Rose on the table. There was coffee/tea/sugar and outside everything you needed for a BBQ (not the food!!). There are three large bedrooms which can be either twin or double configeration. The bedding was what you would expect in a quality hotel. 2 bedrooms had large ensuites and the third bedroom had a family bathroom immediately across the corridor. All ensuites/bathrooms had under floor heating!! The kitchen/diner was excellent with every utensile you could possibly want, with a massive AGA, or alternatively a conventional oven and separate microwave. There were 2 fridge freezers plus another freezer. The lounge (with another dining area) was beautiful with an impressive open gas fire. Outside there were two eating areas with a BBQ that could be moved under cover if needed. To the front was a working fountain and outside lights. The property is down a very secluded lane, over which you cross to reach the private bridge which takes you over the River or Bec to the private gardens which run down to Coniston Lake. At the lake front their is a personal jetty and summerhouse. On a pleasant summers day/evening you can enjoy a very private picnic looking out over the beautiful waters and landscape. I am sure that if inclined you could bring your own boat to launch at Coniston and sail up to this jetty to moor for the week? Bliss. The owners have provided a variety of indoor games (including for the very young) to while away any rainy days. The Wifi is acceptable (You are in the Lake District) for those of us who cannot divorce ourselves from the outside world, similarly the TV has a modest range of programmes, but not sure how much of this you will be watching. I cant think there was anything we needed which was not provided. The place was spotless. If only we could afford to buy it!! There are 3 parking spaces as you will need a car given the remote location. The nearest pub is the Wilson Arms at Torver (shares ownership) to where I believe they will provide a "taxi service". This must be one of the best eating houses in the Coniston area. Certainly we have eaten there twice and thoroughly enjoyed our meals. This is a good location to enjoy access to the South Lakes and given the accommodation and all that I have mentioned before, it is perfect for extended family holidays and also groups as each bedroom has its own bathroom. The owners should be proud of what they are offering as evidenced by the many comments we read in the Guests Book going back to 2012.
Riverside was a fantastic property & had home quality beds. Could not fault the property or location and made a few days feel like a weeks holiday. Fantastic.
