The charming Peak village of Cromford is set in a wooded gorge by the River Derwent and is surrounded by tree-covered hills and cliffs. Cromford is known as the 'cradle of the Industrial Revolution' and attractions in and around the village reflect this. One of these is Cromford Mill, which has been fully restored and is now designated as a World Heritage Site. The village has three public houses and a variety of shops, however for more amenities the towns of Matlock and Matlock Bath are close by. Other attractions in the area include Gulliver's Kingdom family theme park, Chatsworth House and many more. This area has much to offer and makes a great base for a holiday.
The ultimate in "year-round" appeal, the Peak District offers countryside, picturesque villages and magnificent scenery. It touches upon six counties and encloses 555 square miles of open moorland, flowing rivers, and wooded dales.
We booked Bobbin Cottage as a late summer break towards the end of September. The cottage provided the perfect base to explore the local history and the Peak District. The cottage was very cosy, the bed was comfortable and everything that we could have hoped for was provided. We had a lovely break in this historic village. Our dog loved the walks around the village away from the main roads, especially along the canal.
The cottage was very cosy and comfortable. As a lone visitor (plus dog), I felt very safe and secure. The bed was exceedingly comfortable! It was very well equipped for both human and doggy guests. Lovely local walks (and further afield if preferred), with a great bus service from right outside the door. The local shopkeepers were friendly and welcoming. A lovely place to relax and unwind.
Tastefully decorated, good sofas and lovely comfortable bed, lack of garden does not matter given the beautiful walks on the doorstep. Kitchen well-equipped, and definitely recommend Arkwrights general store and especially Figgshaws butchers a short walk downhill. If you fancy a meal out we wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Tapas bar in the Market Place, it was absolutely delicious and very good value. The walks around Cromford detailed by the owners were great, but also thoroughly enjoyed the Monsal Trail from Blackwell Mill in Chee Dale (where the gentleman at the cycle hire shop was particularly helpful) to Bakewell. Chatsworth House is definitely worth a visit even just the gardens if you have dogs, as is a trip to the Heights of Abraham country park via cable car from Matlcok Bath. Spectacular scenery everywhere, brilliant holiday all round.
This is a fantastic little cottage in a lovely village with all the facilities you need. We had a fantastic week, the cottage had everything we needed. It was clean, comfortable, cosy and felt like a real home from home. Cromford is a pretty and interesting village, lots of history and great walks from the cottage. Our dogs loved it as much as us. Highly recommended
Just back from a week in Cromford staying at this gorgeous cottage! Beautifully decorated & clean. Really was home away from home! Out & about all day then home to nice food...even used the slow cooker one night! No problem with traffic noise despite being on A6! 8 hours sleep most nights. Would highly recommend!
Just back from a three night stay at Bobbin Cottage & we couldn't fault it. Super clean & decorated beautifuly. Little things go a long way and the well equipped kitchen & little touches like dog fleeeces provided & helpful local information from the owners prior to arrival were appreciated by us. A lovely relaxing weekend for us & we are looking forward to returning.
Had a lovely weekend at bobbin cottage Cottage is ideally situated in cromford excellent for walking cycling shopping or just relaxing . Cottage was nice and clean with lovely wood burner . Kitchen was well equipped even a small slow cooker Nice hot shower and bath Bed was really comfortable Loads of information left by the owners on local walks and cycling routes .parking outside cottage Overall excellent cottage will be staying again . Looking at other review it was mentioned there could be a fire risk as the windows didn't open fully personally I would use the door as it's next to the windows in question
Nice cottage, problems no garden for dogs, only a seat outside on a public path. Windows at back of house open a few inches before hitting pipes not very good if there's a fire. We found the cottage was on a very busy road and to noisy to leave bedroom window open at night. Cromford is a lovely place, shame about Bobbin cottage and it's problems.
It's a shame that people pass through Cromford to go to the "proper" peaks, as this is a brilliant area for walking, local real ale, good food and live music, so we found! Cromford is a busy working village due to nearby quarries, so expect large lorries in the village. Not that it will bother the guests much in their cosy double glazed cottage. If you haven't researched the area before you go, look through the information and maps thoughtfully left by the owners, whilst sipping a glass or two. The cottage is well appointed, but still has the feeling of being in the Peak District. There are nearby pubs and cafes (recommend The dog friendly Boat Inn, and Parkys for wonderful cake and breakfast) if you don't want to eat in. Nearby rail and bus will take you to other places well worth a visit.
On arrival we were relieved to find Bobbin Cottage was clean and well presented- it literally looks exactly as it does in the photos (a rarity with dog-friendly accommodation!). It's tastefully decorated throughout and has clearly gone through recent redecoration. The area is lovely, although it was wet during our stay, with lots of attractions and stunning walks right from the doorstep. Would recommend to guests with small/medium dogs as there isn't really any outdoor space, but a small bench for a morning coffee was more than sufficient for us and our lurcher (I'd recommend Parkys in Cromford for a cracking morning coffee- very reasonable and squeaky clean with friendly owners!) Although the property is on quite a busy road once you're inside the triple-glazing seems to dull any real road noise; slept brilliantly in the comfy King-size bed. A great little cottage to explore the wonderful Derby Dales from. We hope to come back!
This was a lovely holiday cottage, it felt like home as soon as we walked in. We look forward to coming back next year.
