Us 4 old gets stayed in this lovely spacious modern and spotless cottage for one week and enjoyed the friendliness and help of the owner, Kate. the actual building has had a complete makeover with new plaster work and all modern kitchen appliances, heating etc. We were expecting some noise from the working farm but hardly heard anything. It was truly lovely, quiet and and comfortable. All the rooms are spacious and there is is 48-in smart television in the lounge with Netflix, primevideo.com eccetera. Two paces from front door is another leading to a large room equipped with a full size snooker table and table tennis. There are stand-alone heaters in this room if needed and an ample supply of ques, chalk and table tennis bats and balls. we went to the Poachers Pocket for a Sunday lunch which was excellent and it is only a couple of miles away or we were told it could be walked across the fields but we didn't attempt that as it had been raining a lot. There is plenty to do around the area. We hope to return.
We have just enjoyed the most amazing week at this property. A beautiful setting and a real 5* welcome, with thoughtful additions including milk in the fridge (so an immediate cuppa was possible!), local pressed apple juice and delicious cake! The owners were so helpful and friendly. Upon arrival the cottage was sparkling - immaculately clean and well equipped. The games room was a real winner-having 2 "nearly teens", any spare time was spent having a game of pool or snooker or table tennis. Having 2 bathrooms was a wonderful bonus and plenty of toilet paper was provided! We will most definitely be returning to this wonderful gem... It certainly ticked all the boxes for us. Thank you so much for your hospitality and thoughtfulness.
We booked a New Year’s break and what a disappointment The property was advertised including facility for 5, wood burning fire, games room and 5* accommodation. The reviews on Sykes Cottages were 5*. So we booked as a bit of luxury and more than maybe we would have normally paid what the hell. The reality was less but first lets focus on the positives - property was clean and spacious, locality was ideal Now on to the negatives : 1. No working fireplace just ascetics 2. Beds were knackered and very uncomfortable - old spring system with springs sticking through the mattresses 3. Games room not within the property but could be accessed outside 4. Games room stank of damp and as such unusable 5. It has been our experience that sufficient toilet rolls are supplied but not with this property - when asked where would we find spare on New Year’s Eve - admittedly after 5pm so no availability - owner explained she doesn’t supply more but will have to on this occasion - not very pleasant and we felt ripped off as we had paid a premium for a property that did not reflect that advertised 6. Property was very cleverly photographed so seemed more than it was - the dining table was tiny in a recess by the window - was too small for 4 let alone 6. If we wanted it to be used, it would have had to dragged into the middle of the room. Our view : we will be back to Shepton Mallet but never to this property - what a let down and over-priced for something where the content is an exaggeration
