Hawes 0.5 miles. A lovely, stone-built semi-detached, 18th century cottage, located in the centre of the small hamlet of Gayle, on the outskirts of Hawes. This superb Wensleydale cottage is a real delight with many of the original features of the cottage, including the old beams, exposed stonework, little nooks and crannies, retained during the renovation. The cottage is unusual, set out over three floors with a wonderful mix of modern styling seamlessly combined with the old character of this typical Dales cottage. On entering the cottage, guests will be immediately met with a cosy sitting room with old ceiling beams, a stone fireplace with warming woodburning stove and a delightful dining area set by the window. Snuggle up by the fire on a dark winter’s night and enjoy your favourite tipple and a good book. A lovely oak kitchen and utility area complete the ground floor accommodation. The first floor main bedroom is cosy and stylish, with original sash windows and wooden flooring, whilst the single room provides flexible sleeping arrangements. A modern bathroom with separate shower and bath is located on the second floor, adding further unusual charm to this delightful holiday home. Outside, there is a courtyard with furniture, an ideal place to converse with the passing locals, and the storage area provides an excellent lock-up for bikes and outdoor equipment after busy days amongst the beautiful Dales countryside. The hamlet of Gayle is famous for Gayle Mill, which is thought to be the oldest structurally unaltered cotton mill in existence, with this cottage having links to the mill due to the fact that it was formally owned by the Anderson family, who were the last owners of the mill before it was renovated. Nearby Hawes is a popular holiday destination with a wide range of amenities including shops, pubs and tea rooms and the not-to-be-missed Wensleydale Creamery, which is just a short stroll from the doorstep. With great walks from the doorstep, this is an ideal cottage for that long-awaited break in the country and a perfect place for a romantic getaway.

A quiet, cosy cottage, full of character but with all mod cons. The living area and kitchen are quite compact but well thought out and there is a separate store/utility for bikes etc . The bathroom is huge but very cosy with underfloor heating. It is very convenient for Gayle Mill which runs superb heritage craft courses (one of the reasons we were there). Within easy walking distance of Hawes which offers a variety of shops (but no supermarkets!), pubs and restaurants. Access to the parking area outside the cottage is quite tight but is actually quite easy once you've done it a couple of times. We liked it so much that we'll be booking again in 2017 when taking another course at Gayle Mill.
Mill Cottage was cosy and warm with everything we needed and the walk to Hawes was down a flagged path with fabulous views across Wensleydale.
Liked the location and the peace and quiet, it was far enough off the beaten track to be secluded but close enough to towns and features/attractions to access them. A very comfortable little cottage, ideally suited for two or three people with well kitted out facilities and no intrusive noise from locals or other tourists. The inclusive electric heating is highly effective, the included WiFi appreciated and the underfloor bathroom heating - what joy!
I liked how well equipped and presented the cottage was, didn't want for anything. Very cosy too.
