The lively city of Kilkenny is the county town of County Kilkenny and is a centre for arts, crafts and design, boasting good shopping and a vibrant nightlife with many pubs, bars and restaurants. The city hosts several annual festivals, including the Cat Laughs Comedy Festival in June, the Kilkenny Rhythm 'n Roots in May and the Kilkenny Celtic Festival in September and October.
The house is nice, spacious, and has a ton of potential. However, it isn't being looked after properly, and I'd advise you to be mindful before booking. - I found a used sock (not mine) and a mouldy sports bag in my cupboard - The TV keeps making a banging noise and barely works. You'll get 5 channels - The house is a distance from town - The hot water runs out - The wifi is slow - The en-suite shower smells of sewage - The beds aren't comfortable - Barely any toilet paper / soap / wood for the fire was provided - Furnishings are dated, and the house is full of old dusty nick-nacks. I won't be staying again - you can do better
Stayed at Lovers Lodge as a group of friends (2 couples and 1 single). House was clean and had everything we needed. Comfortable living room and spacious, well equipped kitchen, although if our full party had been able to come, there wouldn't have been enough chairs round the table - house sleeps 8 but only 6 chairs which would have been an issue as we like to congregate around the kitchen/dining table to socialise and eat breakfast together. (Something we've noticed before and is very annoying with holiday lets - why can't basic things like a chair each be provided?) Bedrooms were spacious and the beds very comfortable with extra bedding provided. Couple of very minor things which could do with being addressed, light didn't work in downstairs bathroom (we tried reporting it but couldn't get an answer to our phone calls), some kitchen items hadn't been washed (teapot left full, utensils dirty - assume previous people put away dirty but they hadn't been checked), cooker not secured and moves. Nothing which affected our stay but just to keep an eye on/resolve to ensure standards don't slip. The little things make a big difference, eg no welcome pack, a small gesture which is always appreciated after a long journey. Location is good - walking distance into the city centre. Recommend a stop off in the Nore Bar on the way - great beer and a friendly welcome from staff and locals. Area is very quiet with a park and nature reserve opposite. Not very big but a pleasant walk. Plenty of parking, though note is a gravel drive, flat at the top but up a bank.
The location to the city was great. The hosts could not do enough for us and the added value of the bikes was a huge bonus.
Lover's Lodge is a lovely cottage, loads of space for the family, well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and a nice location.
A nice bright house which was well furnished and had a well equipped kitchen and comfortable beds. In a very quiet neighbourhood within walking distance of several shopping centres. The historic down town area is a 20 minute walk away.
Lover's Lodge was very comfortable and a reasonable distance from Kilkenny City Centre.
The house is extremely comfortable and is located within easy reach of the city. The Fen (opposite the house) walk and the availability of bikes were an added bonus. We would visit again.
