Dronfield lies midway between the vibrant city of Sheffield and the historic market town of Chesterfield, on the outskirts of The Peak District. Historically, the town has great significance and the Grade I listed Church of St John the Baptist is testament to this as it has stood at the centre of this community since the 12th century. This cottage is in an ideal location and with so much to see and do in the area you will see yourselves coming back again and again!

Reviews

We really enjoyed our week at Vale Barn. It's a beautiful and spacious barn conversion. Very well spec'd, comfy, homely and warm. The kitchen is huge, very well equiped, top notch and has all the utensils, pots pans etc that you would need. The living room and dining room are spacious and comfortable with nice lighting and well equiped with FreeSat, Samsung TV and a DVD player. Plenty of choice for enterntainment. There is a selection of DVD's and books in the bookcase and plenty of tourist brochures for numerous attractions and places ot visit in the Peak District. The main bathroom is spacious and gorgeous with a huge bath, shower head and plate shower over. The master bedroom also has an ensuite with shower. Towels are provided so you don't have to worry about packing extra. There is a washing machine and drying room if you need it just off the entrance hallway with a 3rd toilet downstairs. The owner, Lucy, had left us some nice touches you don't often see. She left us teabags, coffee, milk, brioche loaf, jam and fruit to ensure we had some provisions when we arrived. There is a Sainsbury's and Lidl a few minutes away so easy to stock up for your stay. There are also some lovely pubs and restuarants on your doorstep. Recommend Simply Chinese and Casa Latina (open Fri & Sat). The railway line is mentioned but wasn't really noticed and didn't bother us at all. The walk down from the car parking just off the road is a bit of a slope but not slippery at all and is well lit with automatic lighting as you approach. Everything was spotless and clean. There are instructions on what to do when leaving due to the current Covid issues - nothing major, just leaving bedding, towels and bath mats in the laundry bags in the shed and leaving internal doors and the windows open when leaving to air out. It's nice to know that cleanliness, especially during these dificult times, is taken seriously. Lucy and David will give you a warm welcome, if not in person just yet. We will be back soon.

We have family nearby and wanted to explore the area as well as visit and see them. Without doubt, Vale Barn was the best equipped cottage we have ever had and is immaculately clean and well set up. Lucy, the owner, could not have been more helpful and there were some welcoming goodies. The barn is warm and comfortable and we had absolute confidence in the standards of cleanliness, especially under Covid circumstances. Beds were very comfortable and all furnishings were of a high standard. We were 6 for one night and then 2 for the remainder. It was more than big enough and equipped for 6 and the 2 of us did not feel like we were rattling around. Despite the railway line being close, the walls are so thick that it did not disturb us at all. We had been made aware of the approach down the steep slope and anyone with significant mobility issues should bear this in mind. The setting is just lovely and the outlook is very pretty. The walk into Dronfield centre is slightly uphill but within easy reach, as is the local supermarket. If you want to visit Dronfield or the surrounding areas, like Chatsworth and Bakewell and have a comfortable "home away from home" to return to, don't hesitate to book this charming barn.

We chose Vale Barn as the venue for our family Christmas this year. Having 3 elderly relatives in residence for Christmas Day presents a number of challenges for any venue. Vale Barn is very well equipped in all aspects, spotlessly clean and extremely easy to keep warm (important with 3 octogenarians in the party. The kitchen coped easily with producing a full scale Christmas dinner for 5 people and there was more than enough table and seating space for people to be comfortable. The owners, David and Lucy are very friendly and had gone to the trouble of decorating the barn for Christmas, a really nice touch. Vale Barn is a gem on the outskirts of Sheffield. We would be happy to recommend it to anyone
