Roy Bridge is a highland village situated east of the bigger village of Spean Bridge in the Scottish Highlands. Within the village, there is a post office, cafe and two hotels where good service, food and ales are served. The town of Fort William is a short drive away and from here, guests can venture a little further south and visit the Glencoe Museum. There is much to see in and around the area.
This place is a 'seasonal' area. We came for our honeymoon because we went with the description given of all the beautiful things we could do and visit but from October it's all closed from Ben Nevis to Glen coe and local pubs so we had to leave early as there was nothing to do. We did travel some distances to visit the isle of Skye and Loch Ness, Yes the cottage has lovely views on a clear day but house keeping has alot to answer for(the cleaner needs a kick up the bum as attention to detail counts for alot in this type of place,TO THE CLEANER! short and curleys left on the bathroom floor!, YACK, have you ever dusted the back of the TV? Or the top of the door frames or the spots above the bed?) . No ITV and the TV signal is very poor in general, alot of the time we had sound but no picture, we took photo's of all the issues we had to be told the pictures weren't of the same accommodation more or less calling us liars and that it didn't refer to the same cottage. Not of a rental standard and communication regarding this has been diabolical from the owners replying with "we left champagne and flowers" now there's a fib because it was supermarket prosecco (very kind but doesn't put the wrongs right). To summarise, The cottage does have a history of good reviews but obviously standards have dropped in the cleaning department. The description on sykes should be changed to let potential customers know about the seasonal aspect of the area. We chose to honeymoon there but it has tainted our best memories.
We have spent the most amazing week at Spinnyfield Cottage with our friends, it’s in the most beautiful countryside with breathtaking views from almost every room. The cottage has been thoughtfully furnished and has everything you could possibly need, we felt at home straight away. Although there were four adults the cottage offers plenty of room and has two generous double bedrooms, one en-suite. Bed linen and towels are hotel standard and the cottage was spotlessly clean when we arrived. Sue, her husband and daughter have worked so hard to welcome their guests, there was literally nothing she hadn’t thought of, there was even a hot water bottle in our room! Sue knew that we were travelling up to Scotland from the south of England and she thoughtfully left us some soup, bread, fresh eggs, milk and a yummy chocolate cake. All of these little touches add up to a huge welcome! We have spent the week exploring the surrounding areas, the gondola at The Nevis Range is amazing with stunning views from the top. My husband and his friend rented electric bikes from there also and had a great day exploring the Witches Trail. We have visited stunning beaches and seen breathtaking sights at every turn. Dalwhinnie Distillery is a great visit, even for a non whiskey drinker. Best of all tho has been the views from the warmth of the cottage, there are so many birds in the garden and we spent many hours watching the robins who visit throughout the day. Sue told us that there is a pine marten who is quite partial to peanut butter sandwiches, on our last night we were rewarded with seeing him coming to collect his supper right outside on the decking, amazing!! We have already booked to come back to Spinnyfield and cannot wait! It was truly hard to leave.
We had an amazing week at spinnyfield with our 2 young children and our dog. All the tiny details made it a home from home . Everything you could ever need was already there and the owners had many toys which really helped make our stay so relaxing. After the 10hour drive the chocolate cake which met us when we arrived was a welcome arrival and it tasted amazing. Every day we woke up to various species of birds and a red squirrel right outside the window . We thought the cottage was perfectly situated to so many different walks and amminaties. There was a great range of booklets to give you ideas of things to do in the area . We found the area the house was situated so peaceful and relaxing and your not over looked . The garden was perfect , fully enclosed which gave us peace of mind and beautifully laid out . We enjoyed sitting on the decking in the evening listening to the wildlife and the stream near by. We hope to return in the future.
