Rhayader 4.8 miles. Just outside the small market town of Rhayader is this lovely detached cottage, Green Cottage, enjoying beautiful scenery and a fantastic location for exploring the Elan Valley. Within this property you can discover a good-sized kitchen, home to all the appliances you need during your stay including a fridge/freezer, electric oven and hob, with the utility room next door hosting a washing machine too. Move into the open-plan living room/diner, offering a formal space to enjoy a home-cooked meal, when you're not dining out, and a homely atmosphere to relax in on the plush seating as you're warmed by the woodburning stove, and entertained by the Smart TV. The ground floor features the excellent wet room, while upstairs you can find the two bedrooms; a double and a twin, both with the added benefit of a TV and beautiful views of the countryside from the windows. Step outside and enjoy the use of the enclosed garden, with a lawn and a patio, you can sit out on the outdoor furniture in nice weather, and you can store bikes in the storage available here too. The local pub is visible from the driveway, offering a perfect way to end the day with a satisfying drink, while the closest shops for your food and essentials can be found in the town centre of Rhayader, less than five miles away. You are perfectly situated to explore the amazing Elan Valley; marvel at the dams, reservoirs and 73-mile aqueduct built over a hundred years ago, or traverse the terrain to spot some wildlife in their natural habitats. The Elan Estate has been awarded an International Dark Sky Award for those budding stargazers, and is also filled with a wealth of nocturnal wildlife too. Cyclists can enjoy following the Elan Valley Trail, ideal for families too, with lots of walking routes available too, and anglers can enjoy a spot of fishing with a permit. We have just spent a week in Green Cottage and have to say it was amazing. The property was clean and so much nicer than on the photos. Really comfortable bed and slept like a log. So well equipped, everything we needed was there and loved sitting in the garden watching the Red Kites. Ideally located for walking in the Elan Valley. Will definately be returning.
Green cottage is so lovely, had everything we needed there, comfortable beds and big bedrooms, loved the shower room again very spacious, garden was great for the dogs we had with us. plenty of space, loved the patio so we could eat out, nice woodburning fire , all rooms was very spacious, the bottle of wine was a lovely touch, about a minutes walk to the local pub which is friendly and welcoming and do nice pub grub, yummy
This is a wonderful base to explore mid Wales The pub is a 2minute walk away . The garden is safe for medium to large dogs. I think it needs some wire netting over the gates for small dogs. There is a lot of sheep activy going on in the road due to lambing and not much rain so the sheep need moving.. As an ex shepherd I love this. A pair of Red kites fly around every day.
We stayed here for a week in October 2021. Upon arrival we were very pleasantly surprised at how big the garden and drive was. We went into the absolutely great cottage and had a look around! The pictures do not do this place is huge and has literally everything you need for a fantastic time away home from home! The kitchen was fully equipped with everything you would need. The utility room with washing machine was brilliant, somewhere to store shoes and bags etc. Now the shower room was amazing, it was huge and would be great for anyone in a wheelchair. The lounge and dining room was just fantastic the dining room seated six people and the lounge was very cosy and the ceiling light made it very decorative. We especially loved the wood burner and it was cozy when on. Both bedrooms were of a great size and both had a tv. The views were amazing. We could not fault the cottage at all. We were lucky enough to meet the owner who was very nice. The local farmers were so friendly and if you walk up to the next farm, there are free range eggs for sale. The local inn was literally less than a two minute walk, this is a great friendly little place that does food and have the friendliest staff and regulars! We would definitely return here and recommend to anyone. Be prepared though, there are no shops local, the nearest towns are Rhaedar, and Llanidloes, roughly 15/20 mins either way. But worth it to be back to nature and in the middle of nowhere with peace and quiet. To note too, there is no light pollution so enjoy a glass of wine in the garden and watch the milky way come to life. Thank you Brian and Sandra, we will be back x
