Location Details

The town of Annan, a former harbour, lies on the banks of the River Annan, in East Dumfries and Galloway, and is steeped in history, with the area once the site of Roman camps and the workplace of the writer Thomas Carlyle. Each year, the town celebrates the Riding of the Marches, in honour of the Royal Charter bestowed by King James V, which involves parades, massed pipe bands and competitions.

From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.

North Lodge is a fabulous self-catering place to stay on the outskirts of Annan. The house is more like a home-from-home and far exceeded our expectations despite us having read the excellent reviews and viewed the lovely photos - North Lodge is five star accommodation in a five star setting; the furnishings and facilities are top quality, this is not your usual holiday let believe me. The bedrooms are spacious, each has a very comfy king bed with beautiful decor and soft furnishings. A full bathroom and separate shower room provide ample use for a family. Plenty of home comforts provided including a bottle of Prosecco (we were celebrating our wedding anniversary, thanks Carolyn, a lovely touch). Our 2 doggies had a fun time out in the huge, safely enclosed garden and we took regular walks along the River Annan which flows right by the house, simply perfect setting. We cannot fault North Lodge nor the personal touch and service we had from Carolyn. We will definitely be returning, no question.

We booked North Lodge for 18-25th November as I got married at Gretna Green and it had capacity for 10 so we could have our guests with us. We arrived on the Saturday afternoon to an amazing house. It was spotless and it was huge. Plenty of space to spread out and lots of local pamphlets provided for the local area. A few local alcohol miniatures helped too!! The garden was amazing, especially in the morning at first light. The village it's in is a sleepy little village but I would recommend it totally as it was a ideal spot for some peace. The owner Carolyn couldn't do enough for us, anything we wanted to know she messaged straight back and she's a wealth of knowledge of the area. And thank you for the special visit we had from Carolyn with a bottle of champagne on our wedding day-you made our week and we will definitely be back!!!

North Lodge is a beautiful place to stay. It has everything you could possibly need and more. The grounds are fantastic and location is idyllic situated next to the river. It had fantastic walks from the doorstep. The owner was extremely welcoming on arrival. I will definitely be recommending North Lodge to friends and will hopefully return again myself.
