Set on the narrowest part of the lovely Isle of Mull, Salen is a small village with a couple of hotels, a restaurant and a coffee shop. There is an agricultural show held just outside Salen each August. Outdoor pursuits in this area include mountain biking, walking, bird watching and pony trekking. Dramatic coastal scenery at Calgary Bay and the Gribun rocks make this a great base for artists or simply anyone seeking to blow the cobwebs away. The islands capital town, Tobermory, is 16 miles away, and has a choice of restaurants and other amenities.
From the lush green farmlands of the Borders to the ruggedness of the Highlands, the Scots are proud of their land and identity. Scotland also has some of Britain's best beaches with glorious stretches of clean sand over which to roam.
We arrived on a later Ferry from Oban about 6pm and the cottage was easy to find, spotless and very well equipped. We were glad to have stocked up in Oban as the main opportunities for food shopping are limited to the Spar shops in Craignure or Salen but Tobermory has a good Coop. The information folder in the cottage also recommends places to buy sea food locally. We were visited by 2 ponies and the local sheep but missed out on any otters, or sea eagles for which we should have booked an afternoon with Eaglewatch. Weather was mixed but didn’t stop our enjoyment of Mull. We did several short walks along the coast, including from Tobermory which is picture postcard perfect. We saved the best day for a day trip to Iona with its abbey and idyllic white sands and turquoise seas. It was lovely to return to this comfortable cottage at the end of the day and we had great fun using the wood burning stove which is very efficient. If we could make a couple of recommendations it would be to communicate more regularly with your clients as we had to chase up to get the information we needed ie directions. The second would be to buy a new duvet for the double bed. We had to use the single bed duvets to keep warm.
Lovely off road location with great views of the sound. Very clean and tidy with everything you would need provided. Would highly recommend and very good value for money. We have rented this accommodation twice. Very nice friendly owner too .
This is a beautiful cottage on the hillside looking out over the Sound of Mull. Positioned on the only two carriageway road halfway between the ferry at Craignure and Salen. Well equipped with very comfortable beds. Very clean with soft white towels and beds.
