From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?
Staindrop is a lovely village, with plenty of places to walk your dog. The local pub (Wheatsheaf) is a lovely locals pub and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The Spar shop across the road is very handy as is the bus stop into Barnard Castle. Corner Cottage I’m afraid was a complete letdown though, it was very dirty and in need of a deep clean. The stench of cigarette smoke from the previous occupant was overpowering and when we complained to the owner he said it wasn’t cigarettes but the previous person had burnt some toast just before he left. The small front garden is in need of some work as the grass wasn’t cut and was full of weeds, the bush around the front door was overgrown and twice I caught my leg on it. The tree in the garden is overgrown and too big for the garden. The owner needs to do some real work to get this place up to scratch to keep charging the rates for this place. Next door is also owned by the same person, but the occupiers left early for the same reasons.
We walked into a dirty dusty cottage, then went into the bedrooms one had dog hairs in the bed the other bed had human faeces on the bed sheets. We had to find alternative accommodation. We contacted the owner and asked for some kind of refund he refused and didn't even apologise. Would not recommend
We had a wonderful stay in Corner Cottage, which is the ideal cosy beamed cottage, perfectly placed on the beautiful village green in Staindrop, a lovely village in the Durham Dales. The cottage was well equipped and the beds were super comfortable. It is ideally located for exploring the stunning Teesdale countryside, the waterfalls at High and Low Force and the lovely market town of Barnard Castle. Also very handy for trips to Durham, the North Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales. You are really spoilt for choice! Wherever you choose to go Corner Cottage is the perfect cosy warm place to return to and from the snug sitting room you have views out of all the windows onto the gorgeous village green so you can watch the world go by! Couldn't recommend it highly enough and the hosts made it extra special and welcoming with little touches like providing fresh farm eggs, tea and milk. They were also very helpful and available to answer any queries. A special place! We loved it.
From booking to arrival and all through our week away..everything was spot on. Very easy access and good communication from the owners. Real Christmas tree up for us all lit up on arrival. Flexible on our arrival time allowed us to come early Cottage was clean and comfortable...shower and king size bed exceptional.. log burner very easy to use too. Area really good. As a non driver the public transport links are easy from here. Bus stop near enough outside Butchers..spar...post office and tea room a stone's throw away. I went to Carol concert at the local church and was made to feel very welcome. Tv in quite a strange place....but it actually was good. In the cupboard. On top of all this.. corner cottage is extremely good value for money...
We stayed in this lovely old cottage for a week, it was great. Well equipped, so cosy and warm, especially when we lit the wood burning stove. Lovely comfy beds too. Staindrop is a lovely village, ideally located to visit many places of interest in this beautiful area. Thank you Mike and Fiona. We hope to book again.
