There are many memorable cafes, restaurants and bistros and the holiday can be rounded off with a trip to the famous fish and chip shops which line the harbour. Walk the extensive sands to Sandsend to the north or tackle the 199 steps up to the majestic abbey which towers above the town. The more adventurous may opt for a fishing trip or you may care to try whale-watching in season as Minke whales are regularly sighted just off the coast. The North York Moors are on the doorstep and the pretty coastal villages of Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hood’s Bay are a short drive away. Scarborough and Saltburn are within easy reach and the more energetic guests will surely try stretches of the Cleveland Way which hugs the rugged coastline. This is the third time we’ve stayed here and we love the place! It has everything we need - toilet downstairs, full bathroom upstairs, spacious kitchen, 3 bedrooms including one with a balcony. The kitchen has French doors that lead to a small private patio with an open grassed area to the rear. Parking is right outside the front. The location is great - nice and quiet, rural with horses in the field behind. The only noise comes from the occasional steam train passing by. A safe place for kids and a peaceful location for adults. No noise from the neighbours through the walls. Great views of the viaduct from the front. You can drive into the centre of the town in just 5 minutes or so. You can also walk in about 20 minutes. The house is very clean and is well furnished. Big smart TV, Bluetooth music centre/speakers, washing machine/dryer, dishwasher etc. Sleeps 6 in 3 bedrooms (double, twin and bunk beds), big dining table for 6 and living room has seating for 4. We love this place and look forward to coming back again next year!

Stayed in December 2018 Great owners and a luxurious cottage. Very comfortable with excellent view of viaduct to the front and north Yorkshire Moors to the rear. Well equipped comfortable cottage and lovely terrace views. A mile walk to Whitby which doesn't seem a mile using viaduct. Very cosy cottage and lovely owners. Very helpful and professional.
