Reviews

I booked this cottage that advertises sleeps 4 people with 2 bedrooms. I booked this in the names of 2 people and 2 small dogs. I was told by Sykes cottages to call the owner 48 hours before the booking to arrange key collection, as I was busy finishing work etc I called 24 hours before. I was asked who was staying at the cottage and I said my son and his girlfriend would be joining us for 2 nights. I was then very abruptly asked if they were bringing their sleeping bags and towels as the second bedroom would not be made up due to 2 people on the booking. I said no they wouldn’t and then I was told how extremely fortunate I was that someone could go and make up beds in the second bedroom. I paid for 2 bedrooms in a cottage with NO reduction for only 2 people using this. I have been to several Sykes cottage bookings and all beds have automatically been made up regardless of how many people are staying. It is very presumptuous for the owner to think we would not want our own room with only 2 of us staying. This did take the shine off our break before we had even got there. There are also chickens and a very noisy cockerel by the second bedroom which caused very poor sleep. There were no recycling bins and we had to make several journeys down to the bins in the village of caemes to dispose of our rubbish. On a positive point, the cottage was very spacious, very well equipped and extremely comfortable. You are also asked to strip all beds and mattress protectors, dispose of your rubbish and leave it as you found it. We are very house proud people and we left everything immaculate, but all in all found the above all hard going. Despite the lovely spotless property we would not return.
