Reviews

After 30 years of renting cottages throughout the UK I can confidently say Dutch Cottage is the worst ever. It is advertised as a cottage for four, but only if you don't want to use the (tiny) living room together. It only has/fits seating for three. Dutch Cottage has damp issues (plaster falling down) and mould. Chair and sofa in the livingroom are sagged. Mattresses are sagged and indented. Bedding is stained and damaged. Chest of drawers in the bedroom is broken. Pans are old, warped, dirty and beyond the point of any use. Floor so worn out to the point it couldn't be properly cleaned. Mould in the fridge door rubbers, cobwebs throughout. Gardenfence broken. Tried to contact the owner. She didn't pick up her phone, didn't call back when we asked to do so on her voicemail, didn't reply any e-mail. Left the cottage after a few days with pain in the back and hips due to te bad mattresses and spent de rest of our vacation in a hotel nearby. Shouldn't be advertised as an holiday cottage. Can immagine even the local squatters would think Durch Cottage substandard. Lovely location though.

The cottage was lovely, really clean, comfortable and with lots of lovely modern equipment and utensils. The brand new rose head shower was divine! The owner Jacqueline was really helpful, she arranged parking permits for us and even turned up with a new bulb as she had noticed that one was missing. It is a small property so pretty cosy for 4 and the walls are pretty thin so you can hear the neighbours but that's what you expect with this style of house, it is certainly not a complaint. We would not book again simply because we like to try different destinations but if we ever wanted to go to Colchester again, we would certainly recommend this place.
