Reviews

Had a 3 night break here. Well equipped and spotlessly clean. It was lovely to sit and watch the ducks on the lake and the birds in the trees and let the day drift by.

We booked to stay here in November 2020, as a work retreat in a place that was secluded but not a million miles from civilization. We were a little apprehensive, as this was a week in the middle of the UK’s new tiered lockdown response to coronavirus. When we pulled up to the lodge, I knew that we had chosen the right location. Perched at the water’s edge, in secluded serenity with the last of the evening sun bouncing off the lake, we felt relaxed immediately. But what would the inside of the lodge present? Walking into the luxurious lodge, we were elated. I had read a review on another site in which the reviewer had said they were “disappointed in the cleanliness of the property given the present pandemic situation. We took our own cleaning materials and spent the first two hours cleaning.” This description could not be further from our experience. The place was seriously spotless. No cleaning necessary. It had everything we needed for our week away, including some unexpected touches like tea bags, some coffee, a few cookies, and hot chocolate. There were towels to use for the hot tub (what a treat that turned out to be), umbrellas in case of rain, and toiletries in the bathrooms. And more besides. The kitchen is well equipped, the bathrooms are extremely high standard (loved the shower), and the place was warm and welcoming on our arrival. Though it wasn’t only the lodge that we found to be so. The groundkeeper, Graham (who does an amazing job), popped by to say hello and explain about the hot tub, gave us a few tips about the surrounding area and some useful advice for fishing the lake (which proved to be fabulous sport). Richard, the property owner, came by to ensure all was as we had hoped it would be, and called us another once or twice during the week to make sure it continued to be so. This lodge was exactly what we needed. An amazing property, friendly and caring owners and staff, in a secluded location in which we were able to focus on work and enjoy a few hours fishing, walking (make sure you visit Ross-on-Wye), and hot-tubbing. We shall certainly book again.
