Location Details

Durrus is a village located at the head of Dunmanus Bay on what is called the Friendly Cove, on one of the most unspoilt coasts in Ireland, in West Cork, six miles from Bantry in County Cork. The village is the gateway to the Sheep's Head and Mizen Head peninsulas, a haven for walkers, hikers and cyclists, showcasing some of the most beautiful and spectacular scenery that Ireland has to offer. There are a number of public gardens established in the area, including Cois Abhann and Kilvarock, and Durrus also benefits from a good selection of pubs, restaurants and cafes offering excellent food and traditional music through the year.

County Cork is full of truly breathtaking natural beauty. With unspoilt beaches, historic castles, and modern visitor attractions, there's plenty for all ages to absorb and there is always plenty to see and do in County Cork.

Reviews

Nellies cottage has been an amazing place to stay. Everything has been just marvelous. From walking the lanes until 11:30pm in wonderful twilight to the decor and finish of the house. The kitchen was lovely and the mud room with shower/bathroom was a super idea. The owner has to be complemented on the quality of the house, decor and finish. Plus all of the little touches provided by Anna. Loved hearing the sheep in the next field. Our girls appreciated the WiFi. While here, you must see Bantry town (with market on Friday). Bantry House gardens were a lovely find. 7 out of 10. While here you must see the following: “Garnish” island and grounds. 10 out of 10. Drombeg Stone Circles. 4 out of 10. The Long Strand at Owenahincha 8 out of 10. For a remote walk down a wonderful beach. Inchydoney Beach 10 out of 10. (Lifeguards on duty). Drive to Barley Beach 8-10. Clonakilty Town 9 out of 10. Cute town great little spot. Castlefreke and woodland area 6 of 10. Sheep’s Head Walk and turning point (Scenic drive 9 out of 10). Excellent evening’s walk at the end of the drive. Also try the Ewe Experience in Glengarrif. 10 out of 10. Very cool and unexpected little spot. While in Glengarrif you also should visit the Woods Nature Reserve, climb up to the scenic view and also walk the meadow trail. 8 out of 10. A really nice walking trail with lovely views. Visit Kenmare for a lovely afternoon filled with lovely shops and eateries. We didn’t have enough time to visit Killarney National Park on this visit another time. I would definitely recommend staying here.
