Hamsterley 2 miles. Two miles from the village of Hamsterley, just outside the North Pennines AONB, Witton View is a charming, 17th century stone cow byre conversion on the owner’s non-working farm. The property is an excellent base for friends and families, with Hamsterley Forest less than four miles away, and the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors also within easy reach. Inside is bright, modern accommodation with picturesque views of the surrounding fields. The sitting room is a great place to relax after a long walk, and the kitchen is a social hub where everyone can gather to chat and plan the day’s adventures over breakfast. Two pretty bedrooms provide a comfy night’s sleep; one has twin beds and the other has a double bed, with a wicker chair in one corner by the window so you can read in peace or simply enjoy the view. Outside is a shared courtyard and a private patio with table and chairs, ideal for alfresco dining in the sunshine! There are country walks in abundance in this part of the country, with the River Wear just five minutes away providing total peace and tranquillity. A trip to the area is not complete without a visit to the Kynren Project, with mesmerising shows telling tales of life in the area from Roman times to present day! Cyclists have plenty of cycle routes to explore and those on foot can visit Durham Cathedral, Bowes Museum and Barnard Castle.
