The Pippin is a charming, cosy granite terraced house in Lelant. With beautiful beaches on the doorstep, pretty villages around and St Ives just minutes away, it is a perfectly positioned holiday home. This cosy cottage is in the heart of the peaceful village that is bound by the Hayle Estuary to the east and the sweep of St Ives Bay to the north. The white stretch of Porth Kidney Sands is just 10 minutes walk away, this little known beach is stunning and lined with incredible sand dunes. The two storey cottage has characterful accommodation with a lovely inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove in the living room for a warm welcome as soon as you walk in through the front door. The kitchen and shower room are also on the ground floor and upstairs are the two bedrooms one double and one single, both beautifully appointed. There is an enclosed sunny garden to the rear which has a barbecue and is perfect for relaxing in the warmer months with a good book. Lelant itself has a basic provisions store and good food is served at the Badger Inn. Golfers are welcomed at the nearby club and are sure to enjoy the 18 hole links course which has great sea views. The branch line to St Ives is just down the hill - hop aboard for this short train ride - on arrival, the much painted pretty harbour will need no introduction - enjoy an ice cream whilst taking in the view. The Pippin is a lovely home for a small family or group of friends and is an ideal base for exploring Cornwall at any time of year - book soon!
The village of Lelant sits on the mouth of the Hayle estuary, with a large sandy beach to one side and a narrow strip of sandy coves accompanying the estuary water inland. Ideally placed for sightseeing, where you can jump on the branch line to St Ives for a day trip or drive across to the magical St Michael's Mount in Marazion. With beaches on both coasts easily accessible you will never be stuck for trips to the beach. The closest is Porthkidney Sands which can be reached on foot along the estuary which winds its way through sand dunes to where the River Hayle joins the Atlantic Ocean. Lelant has two pubs, a deli and restaurant and a golf course with outstanding views.

Cornwall's visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.
We arrived at The Pippin late Friday night after an 11 hour journey. The cottage itself is nice but the housekeeping has a lot to be desired. To start with, the cottage had not been hoovered throughout, there was accumulation of grass, mud, pieces of dirt all over the floor and rugs, I had to hoover through, even though it was 10pm. There was sticky marks dotted over the wood flooring, where no mopping had been carried out (I drew the line at mopping myself so lived with it). Three logs had been left for use in the log burner.......we were scheduled to stay 7 nights. The logs ran out after two nights. There was no contact details left how to request more. The beds were stripped and left unmade, with no bedding sheets or duvet cover provision. Luckily I had brought my own, already made up bedding, otherwise this would have been a real issue. No clean towels had been provided. Dirty towels and stripped bedding from the last guests had been left in a black bin liner and piled on the bathroom floor - definitely not welcome. We had to bag up and, not wanting somebody else’s dirty linen lying around (especially with Covid-19) had to secure the bags and were left with no option but to leave the bags in the rear garden until we were due to leave. The fridge was dirty and we had to wash through before we felt comfortable using. The top of the toaster was smothered with old breadcrumbs as well as an accumulation inside. Some cutlery was dirty and cups in the cupboard had old tea/coffee stains. All had to be washed before we felt comfortable using. The two sofas are uncomfortable and we as we were not convinced on the cleanliness of the throws over the sofas, placed clean throws we had brought for the dog over the existing throws. Before our arrival date at The Pippin, I emailed the holiday rental company for assurances the cottage will be cleaned. My email was sent following negative reviews from previous guests where concerns had been raised regarding the level of cottage cleanliness. My email was unanswered. On a positive, the rear garden is nicely maintained and secure, which is a must for any dog owner. Based on this experience, we would not consider returning to The Pippin and will not be using or recommending Cornish Cottage Holidays or Sykes.
Pros: great position Cons: untidy Uncomfortable old furniture Smells of wet dogs Lots of dogs hairs everywhere in cottage Huge coffee table in the middle of the small lounge with sharp corners, not good for a small child Kitchen cupboards dirty needed to re wash everything Small bedroom window stuck shut. Front and rear doors do not lock safely Parking is a nightmare (fighting the pub residents for your space) Pub noisy so had to keep windows closed Smells from pub whilst cooking food from huge extractors pointing the cottages way Overall for the price (£875) for 7 days 5:30pm check in, 9:30am check out it was extremely disappointing. Sykes are impossible to contact and really are not bothered about any problems. If I had read this review I would never have booked this cottage! If you would like to contact me I would really love to hear from you.
This was the second time of visiting this lovely cottage. The cottage was very clean, well equipped and perfectly located for a coastal walk into St Ives, or a drive around the beautiful Cornish coast. We would highly recommended staying here and we will definitely be having a third trip very soon!
What a beautiful and amazing place to stay. Everything about this beautiful little cottage is positive. The amenities, the location, comfortable and cosy cottage, enclosed garden, and within 10mins walk of one of the most beautiful beaches I've been on, and so dog friendly too. A fabulous pub just meters away, wonderful food and ambience. So many beautiful beaches and places to visit, an excellent location. Please don't miss the chance of staying in this little haven on earth. I've booked to return before I'd even left. Not a thing I can say can do it justice, just beautiful.
