Located on the road between St Ives and Land’s End in beautiful rugged west Cornwall, this former barn offers the most fabulous panoramic sea vista from its cliff top location. Remote and wild, a stay here is a true escape from everyday life; a haven for ramblers, rock climbers and artists – or indeed anyone seeking peaceful seclusion, reflection and relaxation. Beautifully adapted to a welcoming and comfortable holiday home, Back of Beyond offers an excellent standard of accommodation. With underfloor heating and a wood burning stove, it’s not just for summer; in fact it makes a wonderfully cosy sanctuary from where to watch the winter storms whip up the Atlantic. The spacious lounge is equipped with a selection of books and games, and the homely kitchen diner comes complete with a warming AGA. Two luxuriously restful bedrooms – both en-suite - promise deep sleep after a long day out in the sea air. Outside, a sunny patio boasts 180 degree views of the ocean, extending out to a large lawned garden bordered by Cornish hedges and farm gates. The land surrounding Back of Beyond is quite stunning; mysterious, windswept moorland peppered with gorse, engine house ruins and ancient stone circles and quoits. It would be easy to spend a week cosied up in this little refuge, but if you choose to venture further, there is much to see and do in the local area. For a truly unique experience, don't miss the open-air Minack Theatre, carved into the cliff face by local landowner Rowena Cade in the early 1930s. Captivating St Michael’s Mount is just a short drive away, and Land’s End with its iconic signpost is also within easy reach. Lovers of good food and drink should also be sure to visit the Gurnard’s Head gastro-pub, just a short stroll from the barn.

Cornwall's visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.
Reviews
From the moment we arrived back of beyond was a great experience. As the name suggests it is a good few miles from the nearest town of any size (st Ives) but the road is pretty good so there is no difficulty getting there. All the amenities are at the cottage including a great aga oven which was a new experience for us. It is an easy 5 min walk to the stunning coastline at gunnards head and only a few miles round to lands end. The cottage was immaculately clean with a great set of books and games. Only about 100m away is an upmarket pub (gunnards head hotel) with its fine dining restaurant - worth booking. A little further afield is Zennor which has a more traditional pub and pub food. The area around Zennor is amazing with the cliff top walks being the star attraction but there are some ancient villages if that’s your thing (it was ours). All in al, a lovely stay and is definitely recommended for the normal holiday season but would be great in the winter months as well.
