The town also has a town hall, a church, shops and pubs, and Plain-an-Gwarry, a theatre used for miracle plays in medieval times. Porthcurno, which has the outdoor Minack Theatre is situated 5 miles away. The village of Mousehole is within a short drive where stargazy pie can be sampled. Also within reach is the town of Penzance, which boasts winding streets, shops, clubs, restaurants and a harbour, from where day trips to the Scilly Isles can be enjoyed. Reviews

My husband and I booked this cottage almost a year to the date if arriving having been cancelled due to lockdowns. Being key workers and not having had a holiday for a year we were very much looking forward to a chilled out week and peace and quiet of the small village. 6 days before arriving we received a call from the cottage company overseeing the property to be told that there were building works going on next door Monday to Friday. You can imagine our disappointment to be told this at such short notice On arriving at the property, the builders were building a new house with angle grinder and cement mixer going. We settled into the cottage- lovely inside and a lot bigger than we expected. Nice to have the small lounge with log burner for the evenings- perfect for us as a couple as only a 2 seater sofa. We tried to get onto the internet and WiFi to no avail and reported it. Unfortunately this could not be sorted for the whole week we were there. Kitchen has everything you need to prepare a meal- we usually eat out but due to restrictions weren’t able to do this only outside eating and evenings very chilly. We slept in the master bedroom upstairs for one evening but found it too light as only slatted blinds and no black out curtains- bed very comfortable and lots of storage. Next night we slept in the downstairs bedroom off the conservatory much better and quieter not being woken by building works. Again lots of cupboard space and comfortable bed. Just a few things to note which we reported- very sensitive smoke detectors in kitchen and upstairs- goes off every time oven is opened and using the toaster- reported this and suggestion to change to head sensitive alarms. Lovely bath upstairs but very low water pressure and takes an age to run. The shower in the downstairs bathroom very small- we found it a struggle to wash hair etc without being wedged in and we are both average build. The cottage is on the main road and quite noisy when sitting in the garden weekend when building works not going on. The building works have a long way to go next door before completion. Nice touch on arrival with a welcome tray of tea, coffee, milk, biscuits, scones, cream and jam plus a bunch of flowers I am sure once works are completed next door that you will have a very relaxing holiday- something we planned on having but sadly not meant to be. We did find the cottage very comfortable and a great location to explore coves, bays and coastal walks

We booked this cottage for 2 of us for a one week stay. Pros; ideally located for the SW peninsula of Cornwall. Opposite the First and Last Inn and on good Atlantic Coaster bus route which allowed reduced car use. A typical Cornish Cottage remodel which simply requires constant maintenance. We made good use of the Conservatory 'sun room' throughout our stay. Cons. It is apparent from the guest feedback that identified issues with the cottage remain not acted upon. For instance a dishwasher that has not worked properly since at least July this year. No hairdryer for guest use? Kitchen now looking very tired. Carpets which appear to have been fitted with a can opener. An upstairs bath taps/shower mixer which is an example of style over function whereby water is allowed to escape onto the floor, seeping into the downstairs lounge. Do the owners not care about such property damage? The rear courtyard is a sun trap, but apart from 2 wooden benches there is no provision of additional furniture which might allow full utilisation. By far and away the most dangerous aspect is the flight of 4 unguarded steps which lead to the 'ground floor master bedroom'. This is in fact a garage/workshop conversion which is actually accessed by these steps. These do not appear in the glossy brochure for the property. Some time ago a guest warned that these were an accident waiting to happen. Well this came to pass on the first night of our holiday when my wife fell down the steps en route to the downstairs bathroom. Fortunately serious injury, or worse, was avoided but our holiday enjoyment was curtailed due a lack of normal mobility. We hope to take this up with the owners now that we have returned home. Some say that this cottage is a 5 star property, we cannot agree. We won't be returning.
