Falmouth, with its magnificent natural harbour (the third largest in the world), winding streets and beaches, will keep you occupied for hours. The town's old harbourside pubs, excellent shopping, art gallery and stunning National Maritime Museum simply complete the picture. Pendennis Castle, built by Henry VIII, is Falmouth's most popular attraction, sited on its own peninsula with superb panoramic sea views. Across from Falmouth harbour is the beautiful town of St Mawes, surrounded by the rocky coves, sandy beaches and lush green countryside of the Roseland Peninsula. Go there by car (15 miles) or take the passenger ferry from Falmouth (15 minutes).
Cornwall's visitors are constantly tempted back to the beautiful coastline, tiny fishing villages, hidden coves and the world-class surfing. Whatever the reason, Cornwall has long cemented its place as one of Britain's premier holiday destinations.
This is a comfy, clean and well equipped cottage, with good quality fittings. It has excellent wi-fi and is handily situated for a variety of interesting places like Falmouth, the Helford river, and Trebah and Glendurgan Gardens. A bonus is the fact that, although it's situated on a relatively quiet country lane, it's served by an excellent hourly bus service between Falmouth and Helford Passage. I didn't have to do much driving whilst staying there, which was relaxing. In fact, you could probably do without a car entirely. Why the owners and the managers, Sykes Cottages, don't promote the existence of this service puzzles me. I'm not greatly impressed by Sykes Cottages. What information they could give me about the cottage was not always accurate. A more local company would be likely to be more familiar with the property and so better able to answer queries about it. As for the cottage itself, I only have a couple of gripes. The first concerns the heating system, which is not controllable from within the property, but only by contacting the owners, who live in Cambridge. Whilst they're responsive to such requests, it's a pain not to have the capacity to do it yourself, and I was either too hot or not warm enough at times. The second is the lack of local information within the cottage, e.g. the location of the nearest beach, supermarkets, where to park (there is in fact off-road parking adjacent to the cottage). Still, don't want to be unduly critical. I'd certainly recommend a stay here, and would be happy return here myself - not something I'd say about a number of holiday cottages I've stayed at!
