Location Details

Lettermacaward is on the west coast of County Donegal, and is home to shops, pubs and lovely sandy beaches. Dooey Beach is remote and secluded, and is ideal for watersports. A short drive away, the resort of Dungloe is a renowned fishing area, and offers 130 lakes and rivers for angling. Dungloe, is a haven for wildlife, nature lovers and birdwatchers alike. A little further afield, Glenveagh National Park is a great day out. A fantastic little village all year round.

The West of Ireland conjures up many images; thatched, whitewashed cottages, a flock of sheep on a narrow road, an emerald green field with a stone wall, or the Atlantic waves crashing into towering cliffs and rocky shores.

Reviews

I was skeptical when we booked a cabin in the woods close to Lettermacaward, County Donegal. Was it really a "hidden gem" where we could switch off, relax, and discover new parts of Donegal? The cabin is located in between Lettermacaward and Dungloe, up a short / narrow laneway off the main road. Once you find the cabin, you realise that the photos are accurate - it is a modern scandinavian cabin nestled in the woods. The cabin is well designed and has most mod cons you really need - satellite tv, nice kitchen / sitting room area, and a great shower. Each cabin window is surrounded by greenery, so the cabin is quite secluded. You can pretty much forget about civilisation and catch up on sleep if you want - wifi is optional. The cabin has one large double bedroom, and a couch bed in the living area, so could potentially sleep up to four - although I think it it is perfect for two people. The cabin is set beside a larger two bed cottage, which is also available to rent. Both present great options, depending on the size of the visitor party. I like the location of the cabin for a few reasons. It is close to Dungloe, Glenties, Ardaragh and "Leitir". A short drive across the road brings you to Duey beach, which is truly spectacular in good weather - sandy beach, giant sand dunes, it's kind of like Rossnowlagh but without the cars and all the tourists. Dungloe is the nearest town and has plenty of amenities - three supermarkets are a ten minute drive away, and the Bayview Bar has great food if you fancy a night out. All in all, I loved my stay in the "Hidden Gem", it is a good alternative to the standard boring hotel stay, and I plan to return to the area again. Both the cabin and cottage are good options if you need somewhere to stay while checking out all that north west Donegal has to offer.
