The West of Ireland conjures up many images; thatched, whitewashed cottages, a flock of sheep on a narrow road, an emerald green field with a stone wall, or the Atlantic waves crashing into towering cliffs and rocky shores.
My family booked this house through Hogan’s Irish Cottages. We holiday in Ireland every year to self catering accommodation. Never have we come across such a sub standard property. It was filthy with mould, dirt, cobwebs & spiders everywhere we turned. An awful damp mouldy smell throughout and patched of black damp mould coming through the ceiling in the bedroom. The stairs are lethal; definitely not suitable for young children or older people. In fact anybody could get a really bad fall or bang to the head. Only one workable shower for 10 people. No basic cleaning supplies or basic self catering provisions. Our parents (in their 70s) had to go home after just one night:@; they couldn’t stay in the place. The worst is that despite us bringing this to the attention of the Hogan’s Irish Cottages they made absolutely no attempt to resolve or even apologise. It just showed utter contempt for paying guests.
So we booked this as my granny is from bundoran and her sister still lives there and we wanted to spend a week there.. 2 fisheries looked lovely and enough space for us all.. we got there and the views were amazing a lady let us in and told us the TVs weren't working but would be fixed on Monday (it was Saturday) not a problem we won't be watching it anyway.. during the week we found a few problems.. the dishwasher didn't work the high chair was broken the outdoor furniture was rusty and the decking was broken but nothing to big to ruin the holiday but I thought I would ring Sykes and let them know whilst it was fresh in my mind! I spoke to Emma who was lovely and opened a case about it. Well Emma rang me back when we were home and what She told me after speaking to the owner was shocking!! 1. I wasn't getting compensation (I didn't ask for it) 2. The decking is brand new (I have footage to show it isn't) 3. We shouldn't have been using the outdoor furniture as it wasn't on the list (it was hot we wanted a BBQ the table and chairs were there) 4. We didn't request a high chair (we did) 5. Got told we had more people and dogs than we said (we didn't we had 8 adults 2 kids and 2 dogs) 5a. A bit worrying that I think someone was spying on us 5b. The only other person who visited was my 70 year old auntie who is in a wheelchair and couldn't get up the stairs 6. We all got a sick bug I'm not saying it was anything to do with the house but I wouldn't rule it out I'm very shocked by the owners response as I was only trying to offer some advice but she hit back with all these points. I have asked to speak to the owner but she is now ignoring Sykes now they have my money!! I'm sorry to say avoid this place which is a shame because the views are amazing!!
