Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
Can't fault the location for accessing the lakes, however on arrival the cottage smelt of smoke and was absolutely filthy - like it hadn't had a deep clean in a long time. In grained dirt / food debris in kitchen, dog hair all over carpets and smoke smell masked by air freshner. Cottage not suitable for four adults, twin bed very small and mattresses need replacing, double room on a lean! Not enough hot water to have decent bath even with boost so needed to heat extra with kettles!! Generally very shabby and in need of update. Parking for one car only. Outside very untidy and not clear what belongs to the cottage, is not safe to let dogs roam free.
We usually go to Coniston to a company that rents lovely cottages so this was a bit of an experiment- one that paid off. The cottage is fabulous, the location excellent- near popular places but in a small village. Better equipped than most. Next to a lovely pub that takes dogs. Will book again soon.
We were visiting for a 50th wedding anniversary celebration. My brother lives in Keswick and his wife's family live in Portinscale, so the cottage was perfect for our needs. A quiet, peaceful location but with an easy flat walk into Keswick. Also a very short walk to the launch. Very comfortable and with everything we could have required. We appreciated the large area for storing muddy boots, etc. We will definitely be recommending to friends and family. Our favourite pub in the area was the Swinside Inn. All their food was good but the slow cooked lamb was incredible. We also enjoyed a celebration meal at The Chalet in Portinscale and at the same time discovered they did breakfasts. We had a full English on our last morning which set us up well for our 7 hour drive home!
Cottage was clean, cosy and comfortable but there was no 'welcome pack' and there are no shops in the village so would advise bringing essentials with you. The location is ideal for walkers with lots of places to explore in the area. Lovely walks around Lake Derwent and you can take the launch across the lake to various stops. We chose this cottage because it is 'dog friendly', but the garden is not enclosed- did not matter for us as our dog does not wander. Good value for money.
Every you needed was there in the property very clean tidy and welcoming the pub next door was a boon as well
Ideal location, a easy walk into Keswick. Comfortable for time of year, well equipped accommodation.
Clean warm cottage. Well equipped kitchen. Good location a few minutes walk from marinas and Keswick.
A lovely cottage in a fantastic situation - literally 100 yards from the local pub which served great food and good entertainment, but not loud enough to disturb you. The cottage was well equipped, the only disappointment being a trickle of water from a broken shower and a really poor hoover which made very hard work of trying to clean up dog hair before leaving. Disappointed at having to strip beds too before vacating!
We both found this cottage a little bit dark downstairs. We were unsure how the heating worked as there was no clear advice on this. We would suggest as an improvement swapping the small old fashioned sofa for a 3 seater and taking away 1 or both armchairs as 1 was certainly never used as not it was not in good position to view the telly. We have stayed in many cottages in & around the Keswick area & this is one which we probably will not book again to be honest. It could do with some modernisation/de-cluttering downstairs. Dining table is too big and takes up too much space. Plus points were the shed to store our 2 bikes although we could not fit our 2 kayaks in as it had owner's stuff in there. Would be much better if shed was completely empty so that you could benefit from the full storage area. We had to store our kayaks out in the garden which faced the main road so not the most secure of areas.
The booking agent was a plesure to deal with. The information provided with regards to directions and description of accommodation was absolutley spot on. The accommodation was spotlessly clean and the owners have done a first class job of providing just about everything you could think of make your holiday memorable. We were totally impressed with the level of service and standard of accommodation and for our first time ver holidaying in England we had a very good experience. Thankyou for makeing it worth it.
