Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
Just returned from a fantastic week at Coombe Cottage. The spacious living area was enjoyed by all and gave us plenty of room to relax and unwind when not walking. The kitchen / diner is a lovely large and welcoming area too and the kitchen has all you need. Managed to do some washing there and the washer and dryer work really well. The furniture is good quality and gives the property a luxury feel to it. Definitely recommend a visit to the restaurant in the Borrowdale Hotel which is literally next door. They also have a lovely beer garden and are welcoming to non residents. There are some lovely walks from the property and also a bus stop directly outside (opposite side of the road to head to Keswick direction and just out the front of the Hotel to head to Rosthwaite). Beautiful area, would love to return.
We stayed in the cottage for two nights either side of the Keswick Half Marathon, which four of us were running. The cottage is very nice, clean and comfortable. Kitchen well equipped, with a huge open plan lounge upstairs. The conservatory up the side of the the house was also a lovely place to sit, over-looking the garden. Downsides however are: - Its pretty expensive (£550 per night), and there are cheaper places locally which are just as good - we've already booked one of then for next year's race. - No towels were supplied which I don't think is acceptable when paying a premium rate. A very nice lady in the Borrowdale Hotel next door obligingly loaned us some, for which we were very grateful. - The drive can be a bit of a nightmare to reverse into, as the main road outside can get quite busy
Our family party of 7 enjoyed a memorable Christmas in this beautifully furnished and spacious property. An initial problem with the heating was quickly resolved by a phone call to the owner. Thank goodness we were warm and snug inside, since the weather was truly horrendous for most of the week! We could not fault the amenities of Coombe Cottage and the well-equipped kitchen made for hassle-free cooking. We would certainly visit again - but would hope for kinder weather next time!
This beautiful cottage is a lovely home from home. It is well laid out so the living area makes the most of the amazing views over Derwent water towards Catbells. Well equipped for a family stay. I would highly recommend.
Wonderful cottage in a beautiful location. Enjoyed every minute of our stay. Cottage has everything you could wish for.
We stayed in this very nice cottage for 4 nights. We were 2 couples and 1 child. This is very nice and relaxing cottage and there is plenty of space in the house for two small family or a single big family. There are plenty of places in lake district to do, so we were mostly outside but it is very relaxing to stay indoor as well There is parking for 2 cars and I believe you must have a car if you are staying in this property as Keswick is almost 5 miles away and you will feel fairly crippled if you depend on public transport. The land lady was very polite, she called us personally on the phone to enquire if everything is OK, we did feel very welcomed and it was a nice experience. The agency had charged us 10 pound for cot which was bit irritating and the land lady was also very annoyed at hearing at this and she said she will speak to them about it but we did not pursue it any further, as I was not bothered for extra 10 pounds, considering I had paid almost 700 pounds. In nutshell I will highly recommend this property
Superb spacious cottage with spectacular views, close enough to pop to keswick for a shopping trip or a takeaway! Fantastic walks from the cottage. Would highly recommend and hope to return soon!
Picked up the keys in Keswick (2-sets) and drove to the cottage which was beautifully clean and tidy. A good supply of logs and coal was on hand which we had requested and a Xmas tree with a large box of chocolates under it was waiting for us in the lounge, we were pleased about the tree as we had our two year old granddaughter with us and Xmas without a tree would be unthinkable for a two year old, the chimney was also ideal for Santa access. The cottage is ideal for our family,my mother in law is 87 so the downstairs bedroom with en-suite is perfect for her and the upstairs bedroom is perfect for my Son and his partner. The location is unbeatable with lovely walks to Watendlath etc on the door step together with easy car access and a bus stop nearby, the views over to cat bells are to die for. I can,t think of anything bad to say apart perhaps for the lack of hot water in the middle of the day. This is the second time we have stayed at Coombe cottage in less than three years and we hope to return in the future.
The property was very very well maintained and nice beyond the description provided in an ideal location. It had everything one can wish for and more. The description ads and and pictures do not do it justice. I would suggest to owners and agent to update them. It even had internet and WiFi which I didn't remember seeing in description. It being my first holiday in a cottage has surely set my expectations very high :)
Having stayed at nearby Lodore Falls Hotel a few years back, we wanted another crack at Keswick\Borrowdale with our extended family, and we really were not disappointed. Situated next to the Borrowdale Hotel, this cottage offers enough space to accommodate 8 people (3 double beds and 1 twin). The location is stunning, do not be put off by the road being near the front-door, or a hotel next door, or a B&B nearby, it is secluded enough to provide a certain amount of privacy and intimacy. The cottage is kept impeccably clean and there was not a spot of dust when we arrived (although it was a tad cold on arrival - we soon put on the log fires to get the house warmed up; central heating comes on at 4:30pm). Most of the bedrooms are situated downstairs, the kitchen diner area is modern and spacious but traditional at the same time, and is equipped with all the utensils, cutlery and crockery you could wish for; all bed rooms are cosy (when warm), modern and fantastic views of the surroundings! The 'wow' feature is the upstairs lounge which is thoroughly spacious with wonderful views of all surroundings (including Skiddaw, Catbells); again this is equipped with all the furniture you would need, flatscreen TV with Sky (could be a little bigger I suppose), fast internet, chill-out areas, DVDs, books, upstairs balcony area behind the cottage. We adhered to the house policy of not wearing shoes upstairs which made for a clean lounge area... Outside, there was a small garden area, garage and space for two hatch-back cars. With different people wanting to do different things, this was an ideal place for people that did not want to go on hikes to chill out and relax, and an ideal place for those with tired legs to relax after a nice hot bath. The bathrooms were well equipped and done up up to a very good standard; you will need to bring your own towels (including hand-towels). There's not much to criticise really, and if i was nitpicking, then it would be to have a larger TV, possibly have some hand-towels (although tea-towels were provided), maybe some warmth on arrival. The stay was made all the more wonderful due to the amazing weather, and was a perfect place to enjoy the various sights of Borowdale and Keswick. There are plenty of areas to explore around here, and we particularly liked taking morning strolls along the Manesty Path near Derwent Water (absolutely serene and stunning in the mornings!), this is just down the road, and also the Lodore Falls are nearby too. The village of Grange is about a 10-15 min gentle stroll... We came here to celebrate a landmark birthday, and we were not disappointed! The owners also made a nice gesture of phoning us up to find out how our stay was! Keep up the good work guys, and I'm sure anyone who stays here will feel the same! Btw, during our sty, we explored Catbells, Lake cruises, Latrigg, Skiddaw, Stone Circle, Keswick....wonderful place!
Had a brilliant long weekend at Coombe Cottage. The best feature was definitely the upstairs open plan lounge which had amazing views from all the windows. Too cold to use the balcony but it would be great on a warmer day. Cottage was cold a times though there were extra heaters provided and wood for the fires. Would have preferred to regulate the heat though. Bedrooms were nicely decorated and beds were very comfy. Lots of bathrooms and has been symapthetically renovated with utilisation of local materials. Its in a beautiful spot with walks nearby. Garden was smaller than looks in pictures so kids couldn't really run around but conservatory was a definite plus for relaxation. Overall one of the best stays we have had. A truly beautiful house - would definitely use again.
Coombe cottage was a delightful cottage in every way: fantastic first floor sitting rooms with wonderful views, lovely ensuite bedrooms, really well equipped kitchen. We also loved the conservatory down one side of the cottage and the balcony. We had a very special family event there and all thought it was a wonderful choice.
A wonderful cottage in which to spend Christmas and New Year. Far enough away from the madding crowd but close enough to Keswick if you needed anything. Wonderful low level, high level and mid level walking available from this ideal location. The cottage is luxurious but cosy with everything you could wish for provided. Marvellous large kitchen dining area with seating for eight guests in comfort. Thank you we had a memorable holiday with our family.
Comfortable and spacious cottage, staff at the office very helpful, before arriving and during our stay. Well done.
