Reviews

This was my fourth visit to Keswick and whilst I've previously stayed in a Bed and Breakfast or rented a cottage I will not be doing that again, I was very much impressed by this apartment. The rooms were bigger than they appear in the pictures and are tastefully decorated. If you are taking children they provide a Playstation 2 with plenty of games as well as a DVD player with a good choice of films. There's plenty of cooking utensils and a large fridge freezer for those staying for several days. The beds are comfortable and there's plenty of wardrobe space. Some other reviews have mentioned the awkwardness of eating in the kitchen which I would agree with as the eating space is quite small, there was only three of us and we managed. I'm not sure how four people could comfortably eat there though. Something to consider if you do not plan to eat out as we did most nights. The only other negative is the entry and stairwell which, again, is mentioned in other reviews. I must confess I entered through the doorway which is located at the back of a vestibule sandwiched between a shop and tattoo parlour and thought I'd accidentally entered a private part of the store and hesitated to go up. It is rough looking and makes you wonder what shape the apartment is going to be in but after going up one flight of stairs there is only this apartment and another one at the top of the stairs and once you get inside it's very different so please don't be put be off. One quick tip, the doorway is locked by the shop at 22:00 and the lock can be quite stiff and difficult to lock back up but persevere and it's fine. When the shop downstairs opens up of a morning the alarm system for the shop sounds quite loudly which on the first morning made me think our fire alarm was going off so gives you a bit of a scare but it's literally for seconds. We were there for an event in Keswick so didn't do any walking but for exploring Keswick itself and the restaurants and bars it's location is it's biggest plus. Thirty seconds walk from the front door and you're on the high street in Keswick, could not be better placed. In addition booking the apartment means you have an assigned car parking space in a car park behind the building, again, this is another big plus as places to park are like gold dust in Keswick. We were there from a Thursday to a Monday and didn't have any problems with noise off the street during the night or early mornings. For those that choose to stay I'd recommend Woodstone Pizza and Flamegrill which is directly opposite as well as The George pub both which is just a few doors down from the apartment. I will definitely stay here again.

The entrance hallway and communal area is disgusting and needs serious attention. We nearly turned around but we're glad we didn't as the apartment is very nice. It is well furnished and spacious. Excellent location but noisy due to old windows and being above a shop. We were woken every morning before 8am due to defeaning alarm of the shop below when staff opened up. The apartment was good value but could do with a little TLC. The car parking spot is down an alley way from station road and not easy to find. No instructions provided by agent and should be made clearer.

Stayed here with my friend and her dog the week commencing 9th May 2016. The apartment is lovely. It is spacious, well equipped, light and airy. The floors are wooden which was ideal for the dog due to the hot weather (had a glorious week of sunshine). The bedrooms were good sizes with extremely comfy beds and plenty of storage. The kitchen is modern and well equipped. The living room was spacious with large sash windows and large settees. The wi-fi was reliable and we always had a connection. The location is great (can be a bit noisy in the morning due to delivery vehicles) in the centre of Keswick. The car park space is a minute's walk away, situated behind the George pub. I have been visiting Keswick for many years and this is the best location I have stayed in. Everything is on the door step and of course Keswick is so dog friendly. Really enjoyed our week here and would definitely recommend to friends and family. Could not fault our stay.

I stayed here with my husband and another couple for a short break. Upon arrival we were dissapointed, the entrance to the apartment was next to a shop, which made it difficult for us to enter with our bags as there was mountains of cardboard boxes and two bicycles blocking the doorway. The stair case leading to the apartment was filthy, dust and spider webs everywhere, with unsightly damp patches on the walls. At this point we were all complaining and then we went into the apartment itself. What a change! The apartment is lovely, spacious enough for two couples, had everything we needed if we choose to cater for ourselves, the beds were clean and comfy and the lounge roomy and airy. Each bedroom was bright and clean and had plenty of storage space for our clothes There was plenty of hot water for everyone to have showers and the bath was spotless. We tried to put a bulb in the lounge lamp and realised that it is in fact the lamp that is broken, this didn't really make a difference to our stay but the room would be better with a cosy lamp. As in a previous review, I was not impressed with being asked to strip the beds, I do that at home often enough and certainaly do not want to do it on my holidays. The best thing about the apartment is the location, yes there is a little noise sometimes from the shop below, but that is to be expected, however you are only a few steps away from the local pubs, cafes, market and shops. This review would have been better if only the entry way was cleaned and tidied. It gives the worst first impression possible.

Location may be handy but it's also very very noisey, not just because it's centrally situated but becuase it's above an "open all hours" shop. Lorries pulled up as early as 5am with deliveries, you would have to be deaf to be able to sleep through this. There are no working lamps in the flat so it was relax with glaring ceiling lights or sit in darkness. This situation had not been sorted even though previous visitors had highlighted it as a problem in the visitors book. The bathroom is dated and desparately needs painting. One of the bedrooms had the worst matress we had ever encountered in a holiday rent, the other one was fine. A shared hallway makes a terible 1st impression, it's filthy. There's rubbish and dog hair everywhere, the paint is peeling off the wall and so is the plaster in some areas, it really smells too. Good points? The flat has plenty of space and was generally clean. However, we were not impressed by being left instructions to strip the beds of linen ourselves. Firstly, I am on holiday to get away from these domestic chores and secondly isn't that what we are paying for?

We spent 4 days in this lovely town and beautiful area, and this apartment fit our needs well. The location couldn't have been better- a half block from the rental office where we picked up keys and towels (they must be rented separately and were quite nice), a half block from the square and close to stores, restaurants, parks and trails, and amenities. Although the entrance to the apartment looks a little shaky as it shares the entryway with a convenience store, and there is one flight of steps (wide and well-lit), the place was spacious and had everything we needed. The place was clean and had lots of plugs, extra bedding, cleaning and laundry supplies and a hair dryer. The beds were very comfortable, there were large closets in the bedroom, and the large bathroom was great with a wonderful shower and plenty of hot water. The gathering room was also quite large, but quite dim. The overhead light was inadequate and the one standing lamp did not work. There were two small tables to move around for holding drinks, etc., but they were not entirely sufficient and were heavy to move. The kitchen, though adequately equipped, had an awkward layout, making it difficult to work in. The eating arrangement was especially awkward, with a fixed table and chairs that had to be adjusted for height. That being said, we did just fine. The heating was difficult to manage- we controlled it with open windows and blankets. That meant some street noise, especially at night, but it was not a big problem. The free wi-fi was fast and consistent. Although there were some features that we felt could be improved, the apartment was overall a good find at a reasonable price. I would recommend it for a moderate level accommodation.

Stayed over the Easter period 2015 with spouse and 2 teenage kids. What a pleasant surprise to have a fully furnished 2 bedroom flat with all mod-cons including superfast broadband. Place was decorated tastefully and located on the main street in Keswick overlooking bars and restaurants. Great being behind the 'Open All Hours' convenience store, perfect for quick shopping trips. Visited Lake Buttermere and Derwentwater during our stay, perfect base to travel from, car parking permit enable us to park in the Central Car Park. Highly recommend this apartment for your stay here in Keswick.

Excellent location very central. The apartment is just lovely very spacious and would appear to have undergone a recent refurbished to a very good high standard with modern fixtures and fittings excellent living space. We were concerned about late night noise as the accommodation is on a busy thoroughfare however we didn't hear anything and weren't disturbed during the night. Very homely with everything you need. The only suggestion I have is that the owner considers a cleaner once a week for the shared entrance staircase which when we arrived looked a little unsightly and could give a poor first impression to passers by who may be considering booking this lovely apartment, we were a little concerned on arrival as to what we might find but once in the apartment it was immaculate and we were pleasantly surprised, we would definitely recommend the apartment and stay here again. Superb.

Cannot fault this apartment, situated in the centre of Keswick, within walking distance of restaurants, cafe shops & pubs. Furnished to a high standard , kitchen well equipped.

It was an excellent flat, so spacious and comfortable. The central location gave us a wide variety of places to eat in the evening, within walking distance. A handle for the elderly getting in and out of the bath would have been great for my elderly relatives. The trip to the car park with all the luggage was hard, since the road outside was too congested to park the car whilst unloading. It was a pity the entrance was so uninviting and the shared stairway so dirty, but once inside the flat it was great.

Good central location but very noisy on Saturday night. Other nights o.k. Noisy early morning shop deliveries and bin men. Poor entrance through communal shop corridor with vegetables and empty boxes and rather dirty stair to flat. Flat in general had good facilities but terribly uncomfortable stool/chairs in kitchen to a fixed table with a very annoying obstructive wall cupboard above it which served no purpose as it was empty. The lounge had a poor layout with too many leather sofas for it's size and only 2 small tables. The shop below was very unfriendly hence we only went once. Excellent beds, washing machine and fridge/freezer and good storage facilities in bedrooms. Poor toaster and tiny teapot with loose lid!

Four adults and a dog had a lovely week in Keswick. The town is so dog friendly. Everything we required was provided at St. John's View, it's spacious, clean and the beds are very comfy, we all enjoyed our stay and would book this accommodation again. It is situated very centrally, over a convenience store, which does have some early morning deliveries but their prices were very competitive, so proved very handy for providing your provisions. You do get some traffic noise and occasional loud passers-by, but we all slept very well despite this and having to have all the windows open wide due to the heat that week. We were provided with a parking permit for the week in a nearby car park, so once unloaded our vehicle was left there and buses were used for transportation (the car driver can appreciate the views too that way) no parking fees, and free travel is available to Bus Pass holders. On collecting the keys from the office, it would have been nice for the staff there to have offered us a map so we could get our bearings on arrival but Moot Hall (ti) is just down the road, so you can pick up that and all other information there.

The apartment was well decorated with everything that you could need. It was a perfect location.

A little tricky to find as you enter via an entrance hall that serves two shop units (one a small grocer/deli, the other empty). No lift, stairs up to the property. Quite a spacious property inside with high ceilings and big windows and a high standard of furnishing. Both of the two double bedrooms weren't enormous but were of generous size - felt larger because of big windows etc. On weekend we were there weather was incredibly hot for Keswick (23Cish) and the windows, which took in sun, are done up in a way that you cannot open them - so felt quite hot and a bit stuffy but nothing too bad. Kitchen and bathroom well fitted out. Shower was good. Location was excellent being less than a minute's walk to main square. No immediate car parking, unless you get lucky at a few spaces up the street, although easy to briefly stop outside to drop stuff off and a voucher is provided to free park at local car parks - nearest one abt 6-7 mins walk. Property's not cheap, but would highly recommend and would definitely stay there again.

We very much enjoyed our stay - the flat was very clean and comfortable. As expected there was some early morning noise from the delivery lorries delivering to the shop underneath the flat but we soon got used to it. It was very quiet during the night despite being right in the town centre. Overall we felt the disadvantages were outweighed by the advantages of being in the middle of the town and the close proximity of the lake - 5 minutes walk. The only amenity we really missed was having somewhere outside to sit for breakfast. Would definetly stay there again.

We chose the apartment because 4 nights was almost as cheap as 3 nights and overall presented good value for money. Rooms are spacious and beds are comfortable. One or two things just made it less suitable for us than other apartments we rent in Keswick. 1. The curtains in the bedroom keep out very little light - no good for a light sleeper. 2. There is not one place in the living room to put down a cup or glass other than the floor - not good with children around. 3. There is no dining table and the breakfast bar stuck behind the door in the kitchen does not compensate. 4. The shop gets early deliveries - not a problem for early risers. Overall, this property offers good value for money.

The service we recieved from Lakes Cottage Holidays in the booking process was excellent. We have stayed in cottages/apartments, with this agency before and they have always been very good, but our stay in St Johns View was not the best experience. There was animal hair under the breakfast bar in the kitchen and in the bathroom, also vomit stains behind the toilet and on the bath panel next to the toilet. The washing machine didn't work and the kitchen pans were unusable making self catering difficult. The location was very central. Easy to get to restaurants, shops, bars and supermarkets. There is a mini supermarket below the apartment and delivery vans arrive in the early hours, although this didn't disturb our stay. I wrote to Lakes Cottage Holidays letting them know about these problems, so that they could put it right for the next visitor. Someone from the company phoned me and said I should have let them know about the problems, but we arrived late Saturday evening and went out to eat and the next day we had already planned a long walk, so didn't pick up on all this until we got back to the apartment late Sunday afternoon. There were cleaning products and a vacuum cleaner, so I cleaned it up myself. The Lady who phoned said she would send a voucher off our next break but this hasn't materialised.

After a hitch with the hot water on arriving, the rest of the stay was great.Excellent accomodation for dogs, with laminate and tiled flooring in all but the bedrooms. Downstairs shop really handy for bread, milk etc. Right in the centre of town, so easy access to shops, restaurants and the lake.Found accomodation quiet at night despite being in the town.

The location of the flat wat fantastic and the overall upkeep of the flat was really good, one or two problems that we didnt report whilst we were there that i am hoping from their prompt reply have now been recified

Great location in centre of Keswick. Upstairs 2x double bedrooms, plus pull out couch in lounge. There is a road outside so you can unload luggage from the car. There is no parking outside of flat , but you are given a free parking permit for local car parks. We did not encounter any problems with parking spaces. The flat is upstairs, above a local shop selling all you need, including dvds to hire. The flat is done out modernly and was very clean. The only negative is being in the centre of town and above a shop there can often be noise late at night (from the pubs and restaurants) and early morning (deliveries for the shops). However the above comments aside for location, value and flat itself i would give it 9 out of 10. Fab holiday
