This is a charming, rustic cottage full of character and history. Our stay here felt like a step back in time to a cherished rural England that I'm happy to say still exists in this beautiful part of the country. The owners were very friendly, approachable and only too happy to tell you of the history of the cottage. I would highly recommend and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Charming cottage, spotlessly clean and very welcoming. Hosts extremely helpful and friendly. Lovely hamlet, transport definitely needed. Lovely walks close by.

A charming and very comfortable cottage with open fire, AGA and loads of character. A lovely place to come home to after a long walk on the fells. Owners are on site and extremely helpful!

Stayed here for 4 nights, it’s fantastic for a short break. Logan and Jeannie (the owners) were really helpful and friendly. Perfect for a large family or for friends wanting to go away together.

With two dogs, two babies any holiday destination would be a struggle. This gem though made everything run smoothly. owners nearby with help and advice. super stores a short drive-away. surrounding countryside like a post card. with walks and fishing, pubs and restaurants plentiful this is a truly perfect location. value for money? you would struggle to find anywhere in this country for such money, I would of paid double.

Stayed with my Wife and my In-Laws for 4 nights. Our welcome from the Owners was informative, friendly and welcoming. The Aga cooker is a super warm welcome and the accommodation is comfortable and cosy. Thank you for a very relaxing and enjoyable stay. Best regards and hope to stay again sometime. Booked absolute last minute. Found online on Sat, arrived for a four night stay on the Monday. Expected little with the short notice, but how amazed we were to find this charming, cosy and homely little haven. We were made extremely welcome by Logan, who took his time showing us how to work the wonderful Aga, told us some of the history of the beautiful cottage, and showed us around. I'm very impressed that the fuel for the fire didn't cost extra. The traditional feel of the cottage adds to the experience. You'd be forgiven for thinking you'd gone back in time....with all mod cons thrown in too! Clean, cosy, welcoming and friendly. Out of the way enough to be peaceful, but close enough to towns and amenities for convenience. My little girls loved their stay in "Mrs Tiggywinkles Cottage", with so many wonderful features. We will definitely return,

Our party consisted of myself, my husband , parents and our dog. We all received a very warm welcome from Jeanie on our arrival. Mill cottage is delightful loads of charm and its stocked with everything you could possibly need. It's in a great location very quiet and peaceful, yet not far from The lakes. It was very warm, cozy, clean and quite spacious for a cottage. Jeanie and Logan were very helpful with telling us the best places to visit, eat and walk the dog. Would definatley stay here again when visiting the Lake District.

Just returned from 5 days at Mill Cottage. Cottage was everything we could have asked or wished for. Plenty of charm and character, log fire for cosy nights and aga range which was on constantly kept the cottage nice and snug. More than big enough for our party of 6 adults and 2 large dogs. Everything was of a very high standard, the owners had thought of everything. All logs and coal was supplied as were other supplies we wouldnt have expected. Owners made us very welcome showing us how everything worked and were everything was. Didnt intrude into our space, but let us know were they were if anything was needed, pounted us in the direction of some good walks for the dogs and told us the best routes for sight seeing. All of us agreed we would definetly return and would recommend this cottage to others. Thank you xx

Very pleased with this cottage, booked last minute 5 night break and wish we'd had longer. The cottage was superb, beautifully decorated with lots of interesting features. The open fire and Aga were lovely touches. We really couldn't have asked for any better accommodation. Good location for accessing local amentities in Windermere, Ambleside and Kendal. We did a fair bit of walking around the local area. Would happily go back!

Character cottage - quaint, homely, beautiful Open fire, comfortable seating Brilliant aga - great for getting around as a family with hot drinks, and the outdoor kit drying out in an instant Didn't want to go out, as the place was so lovely, but when we did - great walks and cycles from the door, beautiful valley "hidden gem" - I've come to the Lakes for years and never knew about it.

Great place, lovely flagstone floors, aga in the kitchen which is on all the time, perfect for drying wet clothes after the inevitable walk in the rain. lots of toys for young children and board games for older people. Good sounding stereo (bring some CDs) and an open log fire with a guard for safety (not that I can keep a fire going). Wifi is in next house and only worked for me held up to a window or on the kitchen worktop so for anything other than specific use (eg check your email, quick browse) it's not there. No phone signal either but there is a phone (pay phone or incoming). Still you probably want to get away from all that. Lovely walks on hills in immediate vicinity and of course 15mins from Windermere.

The welcome was warm and friendly and how to work the aGa fully explained! The cottage is lovely in a beautiful part of the Lake District, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

We all enjoyed our stay in Mill Cottage. The owners were very friendly and helpful and the location was perfect. We loved the aga in the kitchen and the cottage itself. Very dog friendly and the walks from the cottage up the hills behind gave us glorious views of the surrounding countryside.

The owners are friendly & helpful at every opportunity while remaining discreet & unobtrusive. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The aga in the kitchen is brilliant; always on, boils a kettle in no time, great for cooking and gives off a lovely cozy heat. The location is very convenient to main roads and local towns and is easy to find. The village is quiet and pretty. If you like rural life, leave your bedroom windows open and you'll experience the soothing sound of running water as you listen to the local poultry announcing the morning as they strutt through the village! We heard the cuckoo, owls & pheasants too. Ah ...! We'd go back again at any time.

A nice place, but given the cost it was disappointing in it's lack of touches to make the stay smooth. Basics weren't supplied, no washing up liquid, half a toilet roll, no salt etc. It may seem petty, but it makes a big difference as to how 'cared for' you feel. Beautiful surroundings however, a great location for walks.

Cosy, warm cottage with really welcoming and helpful owners. The cottage ticked every box especially once we'd lit the fire and tucked into a bottle of red. The owners couldn't have been more welcoming (but don't worry they weren't intrusive!) and had no issue in helping us out once we'd found out we'd arrived without our towels. Thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Owners were so helpful and friendly. Cottage was ideal for our family and the 2 dogs. perfect location for walking the dogs and only minutes in the car for shops of every variety to suit all. We enjoyed the open fire and the aga .

Tranquil location just outside kendal, property full of characture, had all you needed for your break, owners friendly and helpful, property just lacked some private outside space.

Rated by A FlipKey verified reviewer reviewed on 9th April 2012

Old world charm, coal fired aga in the kitchen, open fire in the sitting room, crooked staircase to make you feel tipsy at any time of day! Good food shopping at a reasonable distance, but the real plus of being able to walk the dogs right from the door in the early mornings (keeping a weather eye out for the free range chickens!)

Mill Cottage was a great place to stay in the Lakes, the setting was superb and the owners who live next door were very friendly and helpful. The cottage itself had bags of charm and the only thing that let us down was the weather! It was also a great place to explore the Lake District as well as Yorkshire and we went on walks in both places.

This is a beautiful cottage full of character, charm and very homely and oh so warm with the heat from the aga cooker which is an experience in itself learning to cook in. This is truly the good life and is the perfect place to chill out and enjoy this beautiful hidden gem of Cumbria. Highly recommended. A taste of how things used to be but with all the modern luxuries of a comfortable family country home.
