Keswick is a year round destination with a wide variety of attractions on offer including, lake cruises on Derwentwater, live performances at the Theatre by the Lake, fine fell walking, lively street markets and an abundance of shops, bars and restaurants. Hope Park is a relaxing and beautiful place to visit at any time of year it is only a five minute walk from the apartment, here you could enjoy a round of golf or keep the children entertained with a game of crazy golf. Also nearby you will find the River Greta and Fitz Park with tennis courts, pitch and put golf or just simply stroll along side the river.
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
Just a five minute walk from the town centre, this fabulous place overlook the river. It’s got everything you can think you need, and then some. Loved the kitchen! And the hot tub! The bedrooms were all en-suite and for an old house it was really quiet. We loved it and will be back.
Well located on the Penrith Road just outside Keswick centre. 5 minutes walk to the main street. Views of Skiddaw and Latrigg from the front of the property. It was in very good condition, clean and well maintained. The hot tub was not working when we arrived, but it was repaired within a couple of days along with a small refund. It was well used afterwards, esepically by the ladies! 4 good-sized bedrooms, all en-suite with separate bathroom including cast iron tub. Internet access was OK, plenty of seating and good sized dining table. Great kitchen with everything you would expect. Parking was OK for two cars but would be very tight for three normal sized cars. All in all a wonderful place to stay. We did not notice much noise from the outside.
A delightful and spacious property suitable for our large Keswick reunion. However, a number of our party found the property lacking in essential kitchen equipment such as serving dishes and cutlery. Also, bed linen, pillows and lumpy mattresses most definitely need updating.
Very spacious and comfortable, great location. . . . Very spacious and comfortable, great location. .
Just back from a superb break in Keswick. Stayed in Greta Mill Cottage and it was brilliant. We stayed before and were delighted with the alterations they have made. A warm and comfortable cottage with beautiful views from the upstairs front room windows. Plenty of room for a 3 year old to run around and a lovely hot tub for us all to relax in. The town itself is slowly recovering from the damage caused in recent flooding. Loved it and will definitely go back again!
Really difficult to rate this because the house itself was lovely. Well equipped and spacious, perfect for family groups. However...we have come away with two girls who have contracted hot tub folliculitis. Treatable with a week's antibiotics but not a great momento from an otherwise great week in the lakes. Sorry but if you headline/feature/provide the hot tub then it should be safe to use.
Stayed with my son and his wife and three grandchildren, 12, 2 and 1.Great location, nice to have a welcome bottle of wine and fresh bread. Paid for the hot tub which my son, grandson and husband enjoyed. We gave a few hints on a separate piece of paper for the owners which we felt would have given this a 5 star rating. Other people had commented on the showers and the beds which we had hoped would have been rectified by now but unfortunately not. The bedroom at the front of the house we didn't find too noisy at all. We enjoyed our stay as we all love Keswick and all the walking we were able to do together seeing a lot of other attractions aimed at children.
We wanted to be close to the town and this is in perfect location. Good to have parking for 3 cars as it would have been hard to find street parking. 4 bedrooms having 4 en-suites was brilliant and it meant that we all had our privacy. There was also the lovely large bathroom with large bath but remember to allow an hour before using the other showers. We were a family of 8 adults and the house had plenty of room downstairs to give us room to spread ourselves around. Great kitchen to cook in with plenty of pots and pans etc. It was a shame the log burner was in the small utility room/breakfast room and not in the large lounge/dining room but maybe it wasn't possible to build one in there. There is an electric mock log burner with a fan heater to keep the room warm which is perfectly adequate as well as gas central heating. A bit noisy in the front bedroom , so take ear plugs unless you can sleep through anything. The rest of the rooms are towards the side or back of the house so they are fine. I mentioned to the owner when we met her on the last day that a couple of the beds weren't particularly comfortable, even though they were new, and she said she would put a 'topper' or something on them to sort this out. I would definitely recommend this house to other people.
The owners, Maria and David are really nice people and only too willing to help with any queries. The house has been sympathetically renovated and retains a lot of original old world charm. The ladies loved the hot tub and the outside seating area became a little sun trap later on. The utility room made a great little snug as it has 2 comfy chairs, small dining table and a compact but very efficient wood burner. We had a very relaxing week there and did a lot of exploring as it was our first time in keswick. The only downside was the hot water system, we found that the best way to take a shower was using one at a time and not to turn on any other taps.
My family (2 adults and two teenagers) and our friends (2 adults and a teenager) really enjoyed our week at Greta Mill. The living accommodation was very spacious, which included a dining kitchen, snug and large L-shaped living room. Three of the bedrooms were very large, with the front bedroom enjoying spectacular views of Skiddaw, River Greta and Fitz Park. The courtyard is a sun trap and contains the wonderful hot tub (unfortunately now and additional £100 supplement) which was very welcome after a long day walking. It is located a few minutes walk away from the centre of Keswick with all the facilities, shops and cafe's, and is within 5 minutes walk of the lake. The cottage is also just across the road from the lovely Fitz Park with the bowls, lawn tennis and putting activities. There were a few minor niggles - mainly the road noise through the single glazed windows and the inadequate plumbing for the en-suite shower facilities. However, these are minor issues and would not deter me from booking again..................but it would be nice if they were improved. Lastly, do not trust the google maps location for this cottage. Greta Mill is on the corner of Penrith Road and Wordsworth Street with off road parking for two large cars. The office for collecting the keys is then down Station Street (about a 400 yard walk from the cottage). Also, the google maps / street view picture is old (pre-refurbishment) and not representative of the way the cottage looks now. The garage has gone and the walls and windows have been repainted.
What a magnificent house! Great location in Keswick for the Convention Centre in Skiddaw Street. My wife & I stayed here with our extended family - 6 adults, 3 children and an infant. Excellent facilities, en-suite in each of the 4 bedrooms. I can't understand one review who complained about this! We found all the catering utensils to be just right. The Hot Tub was a great bonus for the children (and adults!). Maria (the owner) couldn't have been more helpful. The only downside was that the letting agents don't operate a loyalty scheme enabling guests to have first option to re-book for the following year (not the owners fault!). Note that your green bin (paper/cardboard) may not get emptied (ours didn't). Would definitely re-book another year!
For the value of this house for 8 people it is very poorly equipped. Small fridge under the bench, no fry pan only a small wok, with 4 ensuites only one hot shower will work effectively at any other time, parking only for 3 small cars and often have to move all cars to get one out. Many others too much to mention and not recommended as a house suitable for 8.
The cottage was lovely and had plenty of room. It was our first holiday with our 4 month old grandson and his mum and dad so we wanted the space. The bedrooms were all very spacious and it was lovely to have en-suites with them all. The downstairs was fine although the sitting area in the living room was a little dark even with the blind open. Been to Keswick many times, love it there and would definitely book the cottage again. Only gripe and its very small, there were tools for the fire, and where was the gazebo pictured over the hot tub?
Greta Mill was a very special place for me this year. A gathering together of our two sons and their partners in celebration of my retirement, their father's birthday and one son's return to these shores from being far away for over a year! Key pick up was straight forward...just down the road, within walking distance. Lovely contemporary decor. It had 3 doubles all with en-suites! (quite rare) and was central to Keswick's amenities. Real ale Pubs,Shopping and the brilliantly stocked Booths!(Not cheap but 5 types of coconut milk to choose from!) so couples could be as independent as they wished, without compromising on my view of the snow capped mountains drinking tea in bed each morning from the front master bedroom. No rain all week!! The wonderfully equiped kitchen and large dinning table lead to a type of 'Come Dine With Me' arrangement for eating. All parties scoring maximum marks. more intimate eating could have been don by couples in the kitchen or utility / boot sitting room. Our only regrets were:- Not finding the time to use the Hot Tub, too much time taken up walking, climbing, eating and drinking...though I did luxuriate in the fabulously indulgent bath a couple of times. Also the master bedroom shower was in need some plugbustering as it overflowed the shower tray. Front bedroom had busy road noise, but it didn't bother us. And there were no instructions on the use of the log burner in the cosy little extra room. So after filling the kitchen with smoke, we abandoned the attempt for hopefully a better informed future visit. Sadly Greta Mill is up for sale and I can't afford to buy it. It's not a cheap family holiday option, but, for me, definately worth it'(...also we went at the cheaper time) So go and enjoy!
We enjoyed the stay at Greta Mill, the place is central to town, well set up, warm clean and nicely decorated. We would recommend to friends with no concerns.
Greta Mill is a beuatifully kept property, well equipped and set out to welcome us. All local info was provided in a welcome note, with a bottle of wine in the fridge and a plate of cakes to start our holiday. Even the dogs had a jar of treats supplied! The house is tastefully decorated and furnished and a delight ot stay in. Situated opposite a large park it was perfectly located and there were some good walks to be had in the vicinity. Shopping centre was about 5 minutes walk away and we found Keswick a delightful town. The only thing I missed was a decent, sharp knife for cooking purposes and a cheese grater, so would recommend anyone to take their own; a very minor point! Also worth noting that the beds are doubles in three of the bedrooms, so if you're travelling with friends make sure they are good ones! We all loved the hot tub and it was perfect to fall into after a few hours of hill walking! Would definitely go again.
Greta mill was an amazing cottage , excellent in every way , on arrival we where met by cakes , wine and a very nice welcoming card saying have a lovely holiday ... Much appreciated ! We had not stayed in Keswick before but found so much to do and the walks where within easy walking distance from the cottage , also opposite the cottage is a lovely park with tennis courts and a leisure centre which we used while on holiday ! We look forward to visiting Greta Mill and it's relaxing hot tub in the near future !
