Tithe Cottage is in a tranquil wing of a converted barn in the West Lakes hamlet of Brandingill, nestled between farmland and woodland and only 4 miles from Wordsworth’s Cockermouth. Beautiful exposed brickwork and beams, quarry-tiled flooring and a feature oak staircase combine harmoniously with family-friendly modern necessities, giving this property a bright yet cosy character. A traditionally styled open-plan living area with oak furniture and wooden flooring awaits weary families returning from outdoor adventures. Cosy up in front of a DVD or plan the next day’s escapade around the fire as the night draws in. Prepare hearty suppers in the spacious and modern kitchen. Share food and stories around the large dining table and then let the dishwasher finish the job whilst the washer/drier takes care of those muddy clothes. Climb the oak staircase to the cosy master bedroom and snuggle up with a good book or stargaze from the skylight in one of the two comfortable twin bedrooms. The second floor also features a traditional family bathroom complete with bath and shower. Externally, relax and enjoy scenic views across the immediate countryside and the North Pennines to the east whilst the kids play in the fully enclosed shared garden. 17th century Wood Farm was one of the more prosperous farms in the area with its convenient location to nearby towns and countryside. Spend a day in nearby Cockermouth, roaming its medieval and Georgian streets, browsing the artisan shops and galleries and learning the art of brewery on the famous Jennings Brewery tour. Or, if the countryside is beckoning, take a scenic drive over Whinlatter Pass, hike one of the many routes straight from your doorstep or spend a watery day at nearby Buttermere, Crummock Water or Loweswater.
The small country market town of Cockermouth is situated in the quiet north-western part of the Lake District, a largely undiscovered and unspoilt area, yet only 13 miles from Keswick. The town is famous as the birthplace of both William Wordsworth and Fletcher Christian (of Mutiny on the Bounty fame) and Wordsworths Georgian family home, on the main street, is now a popular visitor attraction, owned by the National Trust. Cockermouth offers a good variety of shops, pubs and places to eat, but (of course) the main attraction of the area is the beautiful scenery and excellent walking in the northern lakes Bassenthwaite Lake, Ennerdale Water and Derwent Water.

It was a lovely clean self-contained cottage; owners were very helpful and hospitable. Within easy reach of local attractions but hard to find initially. We enjoyed our stay.
