I booked Lower Hodre for my partners 30th, along with our dog and some friends. Lower Hodre was the perfect place for all of us, and was so much bigger than the pictures looked! We particularly enjoyed the log fireplaces, and hot tub. It is rather remote but that just adds to the charm, and nearby pub/towns were no more than 20 minutes drive. If you're looking to book a country getaway this is the place!
We (8 adults, 1 baby and 2 dogs) stayed here for a long weekend for my moms 60th birthday.. we arrived to beautiful flowers, a home made cake, fresh eggs, bread, butter & milk! Perfect start! Emma popped in on arrival to show us where to find everything we needed and to go through a few house rules and then she left us to enjoy our weekend, she was so welcoming! The house has everything you could possibly wish for, it felt like home from home, and was so comfortable and we didn’t want to leave! The hot tub was fab, so peaceful with gorgeous countryside views! We are definitely hoping to return soon and would 100% recommend Lower Hodre! Thankyou Emma and Edward for our fabulous stay in your beautiful cottage! Kelly (The Nicholls Family) X
Where can I start, we stayed at Lower Hodre for 5 nights over New Year and it was a truly fabulous break. There was 10 of us and 2 dogs, we all felt very comfortable at Lower Hodre, the facilities were brilliant the beds were very comfortable it was like a home from home and the hot tub was a huge bonus. I definitely would recommend staying here. A big thank you to Emma and Edward, you made our stay you are truly a lovely welcoming family. We hope to come back again soon.xx
Just returned from lower Hodre having spent 4 nights. Five bed supreme House, lots of bathrooms, beds, rooms etc etc super log burners all fully stocked with wood. Great hot tub outside but with a roof, amazing view whilst lying in the bubbly delight, drinking bubbly! Emma and husband very friendly helpful owners, living close by, I would highly reccomend this accommodation. Ludlow, much wenlock farely close. Great place for peace and quiet and lovely walks.
We had a lovely time in the house. It's beautiful, clean, well-equipped, and having the hot tub was a bonus after a long cold walk through the beautiful countryside. The house is very spacious with plenty of room for larger groups, and set in a beautiful area with lovely views. We would definitely recommend it as a relaxing place to stay.
Wow, what a beautiful cottage! It's lovely and secluded so you don't have to worry about disturbing anyone but there's loads of stuff to do in the nearby area, in fact we were spolit for choice! The cottage itself is gorgeous with a huge garden that the kids loved playing in and the hot tub was just bliss. We had such a fantastic week here and Emma was the perfect host - on hand whenever we needed something but otherwise leaving us to get on with our holiday. We ordered the Indian meal as part of my husband's 40th celebrations and would definitely recommend! Lovely to have a night off the cooking too :) Really couldn't fault the cottage and we would definitely return, which is pretty unusual for us as we like exploring new places. Thanks so much, Emma!
We had a lovely relaxing weekend!! Emma is an absolute delight and made us feel at home - she was helpful with all questions. Emma made our stay 100% better :) it was my bday weekend and there was a lovely touch of a Cake - who wouldn’t like that! The cottage is stunning - if you’re looking to get into the countryside and really enjoy the peace it brings I would definitely recommend staying there - we also brought our two dogs who loved having little adventures !! thank you so much for everything we will definitely be coming back!
Lower Hodre is a great house for large groups of different ages. Everything you could wish for was provided. Excellent quality bed linen and comfortable beds, blissful nights sleep was had by all. The owners live close by but are unobtrusive. The hot tub was very well maintained each morning and the house was made to feel very welcoming on our arrival with fresh flowers and some well thought of essentials in the cupboards. Thank you Emma for going the extra mile to help your guests!
Lower hodre delivered everything we had hoped. With three generations to please this beautiful house had everything we needed and a little bit more of what we wished for. Emma our host was helpful from day one and we felt well looked after. The views and location are most certainly rural so if that is what you want I highly recommend this piece of Shropshire.
As a group of women on a reunion weekend it was a great find, comfortable with great features and lovely countryside views . We had a fab time and really enjoyed the hot tub. Looking forward to a return.
Fantastic cottage with great views across the Shropshire countryside. We arrived with our group of friends to find a freshly baked Easter cake adorning the kitchen island. Then the lovely Emma appeared to make certain we had everything we needed. Emma is clearly passionate about Lower Hodre and this enthusiasm is reflected in the standard of the accommodation. The cottage is quirky and tasteful, very comfortable and was everything we could have wanted. The best cottage we have ever stayed at!
The cottage is big and spacious and has amazing views. The hot tub was great too. There is plenty of space and the wood burners made it feel really cozy. Emma the host was amazing and gave us a great welcome. She baked a lovely cake and there were lots of things made available to us on arrival (eggs, bread etc). She also offers a range of menus for an additional cost and hand delivers to the cottage. We had the chicken curry with sides which was lovely and it was a great start to our break. Big thank you Emma for making our stay extra special and for always communicating to our queries quickly. The Baron at Bucknell is not too far and is definitely worth a visit. They do a great Sunday lunch. Overall we all had a great time and we would highly recommend booking the cottage. We didn't want to go home as it was such a lovely break.
What a superb property. Lovely open fires, big hot tub and stunning views. There’s lots to do in the area and some great walks too. We had a great weekend and will return!
The house is beautiful, quirky and mostly memorable. Cosy and comfortable interior, stunning rural setting. Lying in the hot tub with a glass of prosecco looking out onto the snow-covered hills was remarkable. Arrived on a Friday after a long journey from Scotland so invited Emma to prepare a dinner party meal for 7 of us - fabulous food and perfect way to start the weekend -instant relaxation. Great host who we only ever saw at the welcome and goodbye moments.
6 of us stayed here in January to do 3 days walking on Offa's Dyke. Perfect place to come back to if wet/cold/hungry/all three. We loved the old beams, the amazing fires, the octagonal dining-table and the big boot area/utility room. Emma is a friendly, welcoming and efficient host. And it looks good in the snow too!
We just stayed here for a long weekend Friday to Monday, a pure weekend of relaxation in front of the log fire as well as in the hot tub. One of the largest well placed tubs I've used, under the cover of what appears at first to be some sort of converted garage will pleasantly surprised you with a sheltered luxury hot tub looking out to the stunning views of surrounding countryside. The house itself is extremely interesting as you walk through the different rooms, ducking under the odd beam here and there. Going from room to room, it's all well connected but you have your own space. You have a well equipped kitchen next to a nice cosy dining room, with a staircase up to some of the rooms. And a corridor through to the living room and conservatory. Equally this would be a wonderful weekend away in the summer. And lastly the host is very kind and was in contact with us via email over the weekend to check that all was well. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed there stay and we wouldn't hesitate to return or recommend it.
Loved every minute of our stay, I wanted to stay longer. Rolling hillsides, not a sole for miles, log fires, hot tub, massive kitchen. Perfect stay. Little touches of essentials being left from tea and coffee to herbs and spices. The host was very welcoming and friendly. Hot tub comfortably sat 8. Under cover and attached to the house which was perfect. Be aware phone signal is very very limited. The only thing missing was a hairdryer, but that was our fault as we all presumed someone else would bring one!
From start to finish we had a superb stay. The welcome from Emma and her delicious home-made cake, the kitchen stocked with the condiments and cleaning materials, the wood burning fires, the comfortable beds, the warm, inviting hot -tub, the tremendous views, these and more made it a delightful weekend away from it all. Well worth a visit for families or friends, with or without dogs.
From start to finish our stay was pure bliss. We were met with a warm welcome from Emma, and immediately felt right at home. The homemade cake and fresh eggs we’re a lovely touch, they very much appreciated by all of us. The rooms and bathrooms were spotless, and the beds very comfortable. (I’d maybe suggest if you visit, you bring a hairdryer. I didn’t see one in our room, but I’d brought one with us so it wasn’t a problem.) As requested our dogs were kept on a lead at all times due to the sheep in the neighbouring field (I’d suggest others who visit with dogs bring a long line so they can roam the garden and not get too close to the perimeter fence as there are some parts of it they could easily sneak through.) We loved being able to spend time with each other next to a roaring log fire keeping cosy or even in the hot tub watching the bats at dusk. Truly a beautifully peaceful place to escape to. We look forward to visiting again!
We visited Lower Hodre to celebrate my mum’s retirement, 7 adults, one baby and two dogs! The house is amazing, you open up and door and another room appears! We were very grateful to have minimal signal at the house, so could properly unwind and forget everyday life (which doesn’t happen very often!). We were even lucky enough for Emma (the host) to provide a Mongolian curry for the evening with all sides, one of the best curries I’ve had in a long time. It was a truly memorable weekend, and would highly recommend to others!!
Spent three nights with some girlfriends at Lower Hodre...the cottage was amazing, Emma the owner welcomed us with homemade cake as well as a few other surprises which I won’t spoil for anyone else visiting the cottage. Loved the remoteness of the cottage, the beautiful views, sounds of the countryside and lovely hot tub which we spent a great deal of time in. Can highly recommend this cottage which has only been newly renovated. Will definitely be going again!!
I cannot say enough good things about this cottage. We attended with our family to celebrate my mums 70th. Emma the owner went out of her way to make it more of an occasion. She baked a sumptuous cake, made us the most tasty salads to accompany our Saturday barbecue and presented my mum with a birthday bottle of fizz. And Emma is also an extremely lovely person! So warm and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The location of the cottage is spectacular, idyllic and secluded. The property is spacious, immaculate and beyond comfortable. With stunning views its an amazing spot to sit and watch the wildlife, Roe Deer, foxes, red kites and buzzards. We didn’t see a car for 2 days and had a fantastic celebration, with a Friday night dip in the hot tub! Highly highly recommend. We didn’t want to leave. Thank you Emma we will definitely be back!
Delighted (and relieved) to find this terrific property available at short notice through Sykes Cottages after a booking made many months ago through Holiday Lettings (part of TripAdvisor) was cancelled by the host with eight days' notice and TripAdvisor were no help at all in finding an alternative option. Fortunate for us that the property hasn't been available for long as I imagine it will soon be booked up well in advance for the whole year. It is a beautiful house, much of it historic, with beams and nooks and crannies galore. Nine adults and one greyhound were very comfortable here for a weekend. The house is beautifully decorated and well appointed with fixtures and fittings. The kitchen is a pleasure to cook in, and the hot tub!!! well that was the icing on the cake. Talking of cake, the complimentary home-made cake - and home-made marmalade, and fresh farm eggs - were greatly appreciated. Our host Emma was friendly and helpful and lives in a house which is near enough to this house to be visible but not so near as to be intrusive. Two wood-burning stoves would keep the house very cosy in winter and the central heating is effective too, though we didn't need it much and ended up turning all the radiators off. The outdoor seating area was welcome when the sun came out, and the garden is a good size, plenty of room for the dog to run around. Lower Hodre is in a very quiet area with only the occasional car or farm vehicle passing down the lane. There are walks around lanes and footpaths right from the front door, through spectacular countryside with red kites circling overhead, sheep in the fields and rabbits hopping around. It's a really beautiful, peaceful place.
A beautifully renovated house with fine views over a secluded landscape. The house has been refurbished to a high standard incorporating both traditional and modern styles with plenty of space to accommodate family and friends. I had a wonderful stay at the house over the festive season and look forward to a return visit soon. The hosts Emma and Edward are delightful and welcoming.
We had a lovely stay in this very comfortable house. It was cold outside but we were snug in the house and it is all very beautiful around and about. The countryside is spectacular with wonderful views. We were given a very warm welcome by the owners and will deffinately be going back when we have another break. Thank you to Emma and Edward for making us feel so at home.
Would highly recommend this property. Stayed for 3 nights to celebrate my birthday with the family. Wonderful property with spectacular views and all could be enjoyed whilst outside or from the comfort of the hot tub, which was a big hit with the kids as well as the adults. Emma (the host) was there to greet us and as well as some welcoming provisions in the fridge including fresh farm eggs, a beautiful chocolate cake for Easter was waiting. We all returned home relaxed and happy in the knowledge we have already booked to return in November (if not before). Thank you for everything.
Lower Hodre has been lovingly restored to a high standard. A very comfortable, clean, and surprisingly large and roomy holiday let. The views are outstanding and the feeling of getting away from it all could not be better. I would recommend it to any age and can't wait to return.
