Location Details

Nestling among mature woodland on the western slopes of Dartmoor, the historic village of Lydford is a jewel in this area of outstanding scenic beauty. To the north, just half a mile away, the high tors come right down to the village edge, while to the south the River Lyd winds its way through Lydford Forest on its tumbling course northwards.

Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?

Reviews

This property is full of potential, an may have been fabulous in the past, but is in need of money being spent on it. The cleanliness of the property on the surface was OK, until you start to live in the space. Windows and Window sils were dirty, I found a large empty packet of tyrell crisps under the sofa, whilst hovering( we don't eat this brand). We had to ask for cleaning products and was told they were not usually provided, due to health and safety.Even though dish washer tablets were available, in an easy to reach cupboard. There were sweat marks on the cushions. The outside furniture was growing mould and the parasol had more holes than a sieve. No sun loungers. The WiFi was poor, an required Internet boosters... these only cost £20, yet the owners seemed reluctantwhen approached to resolve this issue. The pool table in the game room was designed for small children, an is not suitable for an adults game. You will need to bring your own chalk and pool cue tips, almost of the cues were damaged. The games room is full of cobwebs and has various styles of ivy growing into the property from the outside. There were several plug sockets and light bulbs not working and what is the point in having a rear garden seating area, if the only outside light doesn't work.. this is all about attention to detail and should have been checked. Though there are many issues with with property, there are a few good things. On our second to last day while staying there, two of us went clay pigeon shooting which was done very well. The tuition was very good and you could tell that he was very experienced with a shotgun and was exceedingly helpful with atuning our skills throughout the session. The inside swimming pool was also very good as it was nice and warm, as well as the fact, that the room containing the pool was warm and himid which made it so that when you get out of the pool you don't get hit with freezing cold air. The tennis courts were difficult to find at first but are connected to the house via a gate that stops people who are staying at other properties on the farm from entering our premises. The court itself had some cracks through the tarmac but it didn't affect our games very much. The metal fence around the court did have some large holes around the bottom of the fence which allowed our tennis balls to roll through and into the bushes. Although, the holes were around the size of the head of a tennis racket so you could get your balls back relatively easily Overall, the location was quiet and scenic, though to pay £4000 for a week, I expected and have received in the past, at other House rentals a higher quality of property than what was presented.

Our extended family have just had a week's stay here & we did not want to leave! The owners were so friendly & generously welcomed us with homemade cakes & fresh flowers. Great size of house with a layout that worked really well for big family meals, playing games & relaxing. We loved the pool & sauna, the games rooms & the garden. The weather was fantastic & we were able to use the barbecue & to eat outdoors on the delightful terrace. Ideally placed for visiting lots of interesting places & enjoying walks & countryside. Pubs serving delicous food only a short drive away. Would love to return.

After a recommendation I booked the Coach house for mine and my granddaughters birthday, it was the perfect choice. Arrived to a lovely batch of chocolate brownies and a pot of tea. It is right on the moors, so lots of nice walks. The children thoroughly enjoyed the endless pool and especially the farm. The owners Tim and Victoria were very welcoming and were on hand at all times. You can wander around the farm, which is a breeding farm and the children were ecstatic at being able to feed the orphan lambs, I think that was the highlight of their trip. We took our little dog, who was welcomed by the owners 2 dogs, who wander in and out. Our dog became the lady of the manor, sitting on the front doorstep watching over her patch!!! Back to the house, it has all the provisions for a large group. The bed was so comfy, with a big fluffy duvet and pillows. Only niggle was, with 3 children who like to get out into the mud and rain, we needed to wash clothes regularly, but unfortunately the washing machine did not work. We phoned the owners and Tim came over straight away and got it going, but then it gave up. We washed everything by hand, so, a new one would be beneficial, however, this in no way impacted on the break. So overall I would definitely comeback. Thank you Tim and Victoria.

We stayed here for a weekend while kayaking the rivers of Dartmoor. It was an excellent base for a large group, with plenty of space. The house is comfortably furnished and well appointed. The leisure facilities were a great asset too.

A group of us stayed here between the 4th - 14th November and this house was a wonderful place to have a base. It was comfortable and well equip I would be happy to stay here again.
