The Farmhouse is one of the three lovely holiday homes on Burnville Farm, looking like it came from a child's picture book. It is big and old and stands on the edge of the traditional Devon farmyard. Leave your boots in the hall and head through to the comfy sitting room with its traditional beams, off which is a bright sun room for fine days. The kitchen is well equipped for preparing meals to enjoy around the big sociable table beside the open fire in the dining room, where fascinatingly the table is an ancient dough trough. The four comfortable bedrooms are all upstairs, peaceful places to sleep well after busy days exploring the area and enjoying the farm amenities. Outside, you will find your own big enclosed pretty garden with lawn, trees, stream and barbecue 20 yards from the house. Beyond this, there is as much freedom and fun as you could wish for. You are welcome to wander the 250 acre farm and help when possible, picnic beside the pond, swim in the shared seasonal outdoor swimming pool, play tennis and use the shared games room and gym. Maybe arrange with the friendly owners to try clay pigeon shooting and archery or hire mountain bikes and head out over the open moorland which surrounds the farm or on the Granite Way cycle trail (small extra charges may apply). This is brilliant walking country too, or if you have horses you can bring them and ride since stabling and grazing are available. Golf and gliding can be arranged nearby and Roadford Lake is excellent for water sports. With so many activities available, yet in such a peaceful spot, The Farmhouse is an ideal location for a fabulous family break.

Devon, with its quiet country lanes, patchwork of lush green fields and sleepy villages is not to be missed. Stately home lovers will be spoiled and why not finish with a scrumptious Devonshire cream tea?
We had the most fantastic holiday at the Farmhouse from start to finish. We stayed with another family and the children placed themselves firmly in the games room at every opportunity!, which gave the adults time to get sorted out. The house was lovely and clean & fully kitted out with everything you could wish for ( even hairdryer and straighteners!!). We loved the rural & cosy feel of the property and all enjoyed sitting around the large table in the evening playing board games. The heated swimming pool was of course the favourite place for the children but so nice that it was slightly away from the house so no sneaking out without the adults! Location wise perfect for us, (we organised an online shop to arrive the evening of our arrival which was great as no jumping in cars for bits and bobs), situated midway between north and south coasts, so many choices for great days out from horse riding on the moors in Mary Tavy to surfing in Newquay and of course exploring the surrounding countryside. I have no hesitation in recommending the Farmhouse... it was, to coin my sons phrase ' the best holiday ever!!'
Beautiful farmhouse with log fire, slate floors and a lovely large dining area with exposed beams. Our children loved the freedom that being on a farm gave and really enjoyed the games room and swimming pool. The farmer and his wife were tremendously helpful and offered advice on where to go and what to see. A short drive to Lydford Gorge, a walk in the Moors, or pony trekking at Mary Tavy. Bude Beach and Dawlish Beach about an hours drive. A couple of pubs also a short drive away. No local shops and no wifi! - Loved a week without the internet though:)
For a quiet family holiday it is definitely 10/10. The farmhouse is fantastic, so roomy and well set out, lovely family breakfasts at the table and dinners too! I love this area, have been coming back since I was a child, then returned with my sons for holidays and this year we were joined by my grandson. Lydford is a family favourite, wonderful meals at the Castle Inn, memories of Lydford Castle, more family photos, and a wonderful cherry cake from the Church. The younger members went to the Gorge and we all went to Dartmeet Adventure Park, more to do every year. We also went to Dingle Fairground, very good fun, full of memories and a great place for lunch. Back at the farm the swimming pool was great, the games room and gym used every day and the tennis courts were great and well used. Lovely to see all the farm animals, chickens in the garden and sheep running past the farmhouse, lovely. Back to reality now but I am sure we will go back. :-)
