Dulverton is the southern gateway to the Exmoor National Park, a small town standing between the rivers Barle and Exe, which meet further down the valley. Dulverton has some quaint narrow streets weaving between fine Victorian buildings and a three arched bridge crossing the river leading to riverside walks.
Somerset offers 3 areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty - the Quantock, Mendip and Blackdown Hills. Lose yourself in the glory of nature, take a ride on a steam train, visit a traditional farmer's market or explore your mystical side at Glastonbury.
We stayed at The Mount fro a week this summer as a family of five spanning three generations. The house was superb - hugely spacious, very well equipped, spotlessly clean and absolutely beautifully decorated. Helpful Holidays were indeed very helpful throughout the booking process and up to the start of the holiday but oddly I didn't get a welcome home email with a request to review and I had to ask about the process to return the damage deposit. No matter, the house was fantastic with two huge sitting rooms, a huge dining room, a study equipped with a vast number of books and games, a beautiful and well equipped kitchen with a lovely NEFF hob and double oven (though if you use a whisk, take your own as I couldn't find one, but it's the ONLY thing I didn't find). There are five spacious bedrooms, two with en suite and a lovely family bathroom upstairs. There's the biggest downstairs loo you have ever seen on the ground floor and in the basement (quite steep stairs) there is a games room with TV and Wii, a full size table tennis table (through the space around it is a little limited you can still have a lot of fun) a table football table and a laundry room with washing machine, tumble dryer, ironing board and iron. The house has good wifi but no mobile phone coverage. Outside there is room for several cars and a small lawn with delightful views of Dulverton and wooden tables and chairs. The drive up to the house from Oldberry lane isn't for the faint hearted, especially if you arrive in the dark. The owner did call and prepare us for this, and she rightly said that if you drive up in first gear you will make it, but in the dark, if you don't know the way up, you do burn a bit of clutch. The owner said that they planned to tarmac the drive, and this will help! The Bridge pub is within walking distance if you don't mind the short but steep climb back up to the house. The food is great but do book in advance! Dulverton itself has a co-op and a butcher so it's easy to eat in. Tiverton a few miles away has a large supermarket. We had a great week at The Mount and I recommend ti to anyone!
We stayed here as a family of 3 generations ranging from 4 to 72. This House has wonderful views across Dulverton and the surrounding hills. It is a real home from home, very clean and very well furnished, you don't need to take anything with you except your clothes as everything is catered for. The study has enough books and games for all ages, more than you can read or play with. The wifi was good, the games room with table tennis, football table and a wii console with a few games, kept the children amused, from the 4 year olds to the 45 year olds! The kitchen is really well equipped as is the utility room down in the cellar. The bedrooms are a great size two of them are ensuite. You can tell the owners regularly use the property as it is genuinely a home from home. I can't recommend this property enough! The surrounding area: The Bridge pub is just a short, although very steep walk and very welcoming. The co-op store has all the essentials and is open until at least 10 pm most nights. The Chip Shop has very, very slow service! It took 40 minutes wait to get our order! I think they are new to the business, although the food was good when you eventually got it. There is a children's play area very close by, a short walk along the stream, but not close enough to let the children go alone. Dunster Village and the castle are worth a visit and all the major Supermarkets can be found in Minehead a 20-30min drive from Dulverton.
