Its old cobbled lanes and byways branch off the attractive main street, and the stone ruins of 12th century Kendal Castle sit perched on a hill with views over the town. Visit The Abbot Hall Art Gallery, its regular collection holding portraits by Kendal born George Romney and works by Turner and Ruskin, with other exhibitions through its links with the Tate. Both Sizergh Castle and Levens Hall with its superb Topiary Garden are nearby, as are limestone escarpments for easy walking, offering thrilling views of the Lakeland Mountains, the Howgills and Morecambe Bay. Kendal itself is ideally placed for exploring South Lakeland.
Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
We stayed for 7 nights over the October half term. This is an amazing building, with excellent facilities, however our experience was ruined by the terrible attitude of the building management team. Upon our arrival we discovered the top floor of the building locked off, (look for the pictures of the wrought iron beds and those which show top floor) including the communal bathroom with a bath in it. and the lovely bedroom overlooking the garden (with the iron balcony etc) After speaking to the building manager where i politely enquired as to why the top floor was locked off as we were hoping to utilize one of the bedrooms in the pictures I was advised that i should not have expected it to be open as we were only paying a discounted price because of covid (It was £2300.00 for 7 nights) !!! And that there was a note on the agents website saying (that some of the facilities "May" not be available) So i should essentially be grateful it was not 3 times the price.!!!! After all there were enough rooms made up on the second floor so what could ai possibly be complaining about!!! I absolutely had no issues with only some of the rooms being made available, and i understand the reasons for that, however surely it is up to us as the customer to decide which of the advertised rooms we wanted to use. (note that 2 of the available bedrooms we were allocated are windowed along the main road, which is very busy. The curtains do nothing to dampen the sound or the lights of the cars coming past.) If this was indeed the intention, the agents site they use could have been clear on there website to manage our expectations. Mostly we were upset with the attitude of the building manager, which was quite frankly shocking. So to summarize, This is a wonderful building, and the living area, hot tub, sauna are all as advertised and if it was based on that i would recommend. However due to the terrible attitude of the building management and the lack of available top floor, I would look elsewhere for something smaller with similar facilities.
