At the heart of the well-appointed kitchen is a handmade oak dining table for everyone to gather for laid-back breakfasts, lazy lunches and delicious suppers. There is a woodburner and a sofa for extra cosiness. The south-facing sitting room is a lavish spot for family and friends to relax together, with another magnificent woodburner within a feature brick wall. For autumnal and winter breaks there is underfloor heating to ensure that this is a snug retreat at all times of the year. Take a step down from the sitting room to get to the first bedroom in the property, with a top-of-the-range shower located opposite; it’s an ideal room for those with limited mobility. Upstairs you will find four more comfortable bedrooms accompanied by two luxury bathrooms. All five bedrooms have excellent quality beds which can be made for a super-king, twin or single bed; whichever suits your requirements. Outdoors, children will enjoy the freedom of the lawn and adjacent apple orchard. There are beautiful walks to do on and around the property. Afterwards bring the whole family/group together around the barbeque/fire pit for sizzling burgers, roasted veggies and stews. There is a habadasher (cushions, hankerchiefs, socks, pyjamas, fabric); the kind of store which used to be on every high street but is now a rarity. Look out for events at the Community Centre which hosts the Knighton Food and Craft Market on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month; Also visit the Offa’s Dyke Centre, a venue for many walkers, with the famous section of Offa’s Dyke running between Wales and England. There is great pub food here and in the surrounding area. There are many nearby destinations of note; impossible to list them all: Ludlow Castle, “Probably the loveliest town in England” – John Betjamen. National Trust Croft Castle and Berrington Hall. Presteigne – The Judge’s Lodging museum; music festival in August. Leominster – antiques central. The annual Carnival and Show held on the last Saturday of August is an unmissable event.
