Crantock is a small Cornish village set back from the coast close to the popular resort of Newquay. If you want to escape the crowds, yet still be close to the action, this is the place to be. There's stunning countryside all around and lots of pretty villages to explore; however, it is the coast that dominates. Enjoy superb walks along the coastal path over dramatic cliff-tops, or magnificent surfing on beaches stretching from Watergate Bay in the north to Fistral beach in the centre of Newquay and on down the coast. There are a number of golf courses in the area, National Trust properties, traditional pubs and outstanding restaurants. Newquay itself is a visitor's paradise with a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as attractions such as the Sea Life Centre, Newquay Zoo and nearby Dairyland and Eden Project.
What a lovely place to spend a holiday, we were met by Holly who couldn’t have been more pleasant and helpful . Crantock is delightful place having been coming for 30 yrs , beaches just 15 mins walk away . So jump into the hot tub and relax .
I've no doubt that when 'Sykes Holiday Cottages' read this review you will be referred to some text on their website that says a neighbouring property is having some work done - and that impact on customers will be minimal. This couldn't be further from the truth. Sykes have been spectacularly frugal about the issues with this property and we had a pretty awful week. If Sykes had wanted people to know what this property was like they would at least have put one photo of the carnage next door and the fact that your wonderful hot tub was overlooked by workman putting up and working on scaffolding. It's obvious why they did not do this so to aide people in deciding whether to take this property I have submitted my own photos - make your own judgements. When we arrived, we were surprised to find workmen going in and out of the makeshift toilet just outside the bottom of the garden to say nothing of the piles of rubble and dilapidated caravan (can't see this on any of Sykes' photos!). But hey ho - we made our choice and even though this spoilt the view we just thought we'd make the most of it. The problems however started the next morning when we were woken up early when a couple of vans of scaffolding turned up about 2 yards from our bedroom window and started to unload. The Sykes rep had said there was unlikely to be any work whilst we were there and to call if there was any disturbance. We did this but there was no change to anything - likewise the response from Sykes was along the lines of - you chose it so now you have to live with it. The next few days we had to endure early starts on the building site, as scaffolding went up around the property a few feet from us and the constant drone on petrol driven metal cutters etc. Quite awful. The scaffolding now looks directly down onto the hot tub so there is no privacy at all. In truth, the chat with the workmen laying the bricks was friendly but not sort of thing you were expecting at a property at over 1000 pounds a week - and certainly not while your in a hot tub! As expected, Sykes are hiding behind the text on their site and have no interest in the fact that our holiday at this house was severely impacted. Cornwall is great and we stayed away from this property as much as we could to avoid the problems - if you do choose this property do not expect any peace, privacy or tranquility. We have been coming to Cornwall for decades and this was our worst experience so far. My photos don't lie. So! Make your own mind up. Sykes' photos on their website have been skilfully angled so as not to show the work next door so do not be fooled by them. I for one regret coming to this expensive property and will never return or use Sykes again.
This property is in the most beautiful position. The views are spectacular! You come straight out the front door onto the coastal path. Polly Joke & Crantock Beach are both within walking distance. Property is spotlessly clean. Beds are extremely comfortable and the kitchen is very well equipped. Naomi the property manager was there to greet us. We will definitely be back.
I picked this because of the view and hot tub. We were not disappointed with either. The bungalow was well equipped with great bathrooms and comfy beds. There was lots of space even with 8 of us. We were greeted by Niami on arrival who talked us through everything and was on hand if we needed her. Great walks from here and a pub around the corner!! All in all we had a lovely week.
This property more than exceeded my expectations. Beautifully renovated, furnished and laid out. The house had everything that you could possibly need to enjoy a relaxing and comfortable stay. Comfortable sofas, beds, towels and well stocked kitchen. I would definitely look to book with this company again if all the cottages come up to the same standard as this one! We even managed to get into the hot tub on a couple of occasions.
We decided to treat ourselves & book Cormorant for Christmas (we walked past it in the Summer & admired it). We had a fantastic time in this lovely, clean, well equipped open plan bungalow with stunning views. To be able to sit in the Conservatory & watch the waves break over Goose Rock was just so relaxing. We were greeted with a Real Christmas Tree, Chocolates & Prosecco - what a lovely touch. Everything we needed was there, including a Turkey Baster! Fab that we could take our well behaved Collie Dog but wonderful that when we first walked in, you would never know Dogs were allowed in!
As an extended family group of 10 we booked Cormorant and Guillemot for our annual get together. We had three generations staying in the two properties which are next to each other. It worked really well as we all had our own space, could do our own thing, but still get together as a group throughout the week. The two properties are lovely. Cormorant has spectacular views over Crantock Bay from the open plan living and dining room. Your really feel close to the sea. Having a garden as well was great. The beds in all the properties were really comfortable and both properties were well appointed with even an expresso coffee machine in Cormorant. We have stayed in Crantock Village previously but the properties we had used were already booked so we thought we would give these two a go. We were not disappointed. They are so close to Polly Joke beach which is almost deserted with an away from it all feel. Cormorant and Guillemot are only 5 minutes from the beach over NT land which has wonderful views over the sea. We will be back next year to Crantock. We now have to decide if we stay in the village or come back to West Pentire, a tough choice. We dined out locally this year but also took advantage of Tesco delivering at the start of our holiday and again part way through. Seemed better to shop from the iPad that spend time in a supermarket when on holiday. The wonders of fast broadband.
I spent two weeks in Cormorant with my wife and two young children. The cottage is in a great location and is well set out for those with young kids (no stairs and very safe). I do, however, take issue with a few issues. Given the price (over £1,000 per week) the bed in the master bedroom was awful. If it was a hotel we would have demanded a new room. When this was raised it took several days before anything was done to rectify the situation and the resulting change (fitting a mattress topper) barely made a difference. In addition to this the carpet in the main bedroom smelt of wet dog. One final gripe - they expect you to pay for heating and hot water. We stayed in May/June with decent weather and barely used the heating and yet the somehow used over £150 worth of oil in 2 weeks! This is ridiculous and must be an attempt to make more money. Given the cost of the place I think this is obscene. In summary it is a nice, not outstanding, cottage which was unfortunately spoilt by a number of factors. I would not stay there again or recommend it to anyone.
Cormorant is a very special apartment to stay in - it is extremely well appointed and is bright, airy, clean and comfortable. The views across the bay are second to none and you feel "away from it all" the moment you arrive to start your holiday.
If you get the weather there is no better place than Cornwall. Cormorant is located near the beach with a wonderful sea view. The property is bright, clean and spacious with easy access to wonderful coastal walks.
We stayed with my parents and grandparents in June 2013, however we have stayed in the cottage two times before this - Sept 2012 & Sept 2011. We love the location of the property as it sits just above Crantock with a short walk down to the beach. The views from the cottage are amazing and it's a lovely open plan living area which really maximises the view. The rooms are very tidy and clean. They also ask how many quilts & pillows you would like for your stay which is very considerate. The kitchen is well equipped for self-catering and even Sainsbury's delivers to your door! The only thing we have noticed over the years is the cottage is getting a little tired in places and really needs a refurb, but we hope that the owners will do this soon. There also used to be a lovely outside dining table and chairs, which has been replaced by a bench which isn't easy to get x6 adults round if you want to sit outside. However the new fence in the garden is a great addition and we spent many sunny hours behind it protected from the wind. A very enjoyable stay in the most beautiful location.
Have stayed here before and as always it is a place for a great holiday, with of without the family. Set on top of the cliff overlooking Crantock bay and the Goose rock, the views from the bungalow are 'wow!'. The accommodation is very clean and well kept with all amenities that you require for a great stay, very comfortable, just great to sit, relax and look at view. The location of Cormorant is such, that for families ,just a short walk in either direction takes you to the peaceful sandy cove of 'Polly joke' or the great sandy beach and dunes of Crantock bay.Or for the more energetic, lovely cliff top walks with outstanding views of the Atlantic. Crantock village is a short walk away, a quaint village with 2 pubs and very good local store. There is also a farm shop very close, plus a pub around the corner from Cormorant, with super views and grub.
