Impressive mountains, open fells and clear-water lakes, the Lake District has it all. From walking in the mountains to exhilarating watersports or just a gentle cruise on a steam-powered yacht, Cumbria is the perfect holiday destination.
We stayed here at the end of June, and the owner has left all the amenities you could need for your stay (all apart from food as you'd expect). There is free WiFi, TV, DVD with a selection for your entertainment and some books. Tea, Coffee etc are all provided too. Besides that there is a decent DAB clock radio, Hoover, Dishwasher, Washing machine, gas cooker, microwave etc - nothing that hasn't been left out. The place is spotless and it is close to a decent pub that serves good food (and huge fish and chips). A lot of the attractions are all within about 40 minutes drive away and in my opinion, The best supermarket in the world is 10 minutes drive away (Booth's).
First time we have stayed in a cottage and it was equipped with everything. Location was ideal for what we wanted to do everyone we met was friendly will definitely recommend to friends that are planning to visit that area where to go and stay loved it.
A lovely homely and comfortable cottage situated in a quiet peaceful spot. We had everything that we required and it took us no time at all to settle in. We were made to feel very welcome. We would certainly consider choosing this cottage again if we decided to return to this part of the country.
This was the perfect cottage for two people! We had a lovely quiet week, the cottage had everything we needed and a very comfy bed. There are two excellent pubs in the village, and the village itself is very picturesque and peaceful. Highly recommended.
The Crook is a lovely cottage; well equipped and situated and very peaceful. We would certainly stay here again and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone look for somewhere to stay in the Lake District.
Everything provided was of a high quality-bedding, towels, kitchenware and cookware. The owner was very helpful without being the least bit intrusive. Will highly recommend the place.
A good base for seeing the local attractions. We were lucky to have good weather and were able to sit outside on the decking after our days out. The shower room was lovely.
Stayed here for ! week in June with my wife, and we were very pleased with our choice. The cottage was in a quiet location, was comfortable and had nearly everything one could ask for ( a light over the shower room mirror please). It makes a good base for exploring southern Lakeland and the local pub is 100 yards away ( but you wouldn't know it). There are local walks to be had offering good views of the coast, and all amenities are close by in Ulverston ( a lovely, small but lively market town).
A friendly welcome and a great town house with a very high standard of décor. Everything you want in a rental and more.
A lovely cosy cottage as a base for exploring the South and West of the Lake District. The weather at the beginning of May was cold and very wet but the central heating worked well. Our host was very welcoming and helpful, and the cottage had everything we needed for a relaxing week.
The Crook was part of a barn conversion complex, it was very quiet and private. The balcony at the back of the property gave a lovely outside space. Excellent accommodation, highly recommended.
This is a delightful cottage in a lovely rural village. There is no sound of passing traffic and it is lovely and quiet. The owner stays next door with his family. They are a nice family and very helpful and friendly. Stayed here for 3 weeks and hope to return in the near future. It is a lovely cottage with all the mod cons. It is clean and tidy with bright decor and is suitable for a couple. The bed is extremely comfortable and the bedroom contains an ensuite toilet and shower. Excellent.
A good location for lakes and coast and a very homely comfortable cottage to stay in.
The best accommodation we had while in England. Could not fault anything, could easily live there on a permanent basis. The owners are nice people who sure know how to fit out accommodation to please. The local area is stunning, lovely walks abound and plenty of nice places to see only a short drive away. Best holiday my wife and I have ever had.
The cottage was a pleasure to come back to at night. The surrounding attractions were varied and good. The scenery was spectacular. If this is the usual standard of your properties - we will be booking again.
This cottage was excellent; in fact it was the best equipped cottage we have ever stayed at. Every aspect of the cottage was first-class and the owner was a charming person and very helpful. We would safely recommend this property to anybody.
As expected from the website, cosy and very quiet. The duvet was too warm for us, we asked for another and got one, the young lady was very pleasant.
The cottage was ideally situated for our particular needs. It was also ideal for visiting the places that we wanted to see, going as far afield as Kendal and Ravenglass without difficulty. We loved the peninsula on which the cottage was located and particularly liked Great Urswick. There was nothing that we did not like about our holiday and, given the opportunity, we would happily return. As far as the cottage is concerned, it fully met our expectations and the owner, who lives next door, was very friendly and helpful.
The Crook is a beautiful cottage situated in a quiet village just to the south of the lakes. It is extremely well equipped and very comfortable, providing everything that a couple could need. The owner (next door) is charming and helpful. The Crook provides an excellent base from which to explore the lakes or to go walking, and a quiet refuge away from the main tourist areas to return to in the evening. Great Urswick is a picturesque village with two pubs, one of which serves good food. We would definitely stay in The Crook again when we return to the area.
The cottage is in a great place to visit Lakeland and provides a very good base to explore from. Lots of attractions within 20min drive.
The Crook is a beautiful cottage situated in a small village just south of the lakes. It is very well equipped, providing everything that a couple could need and the owner (next door) is very welcoming. Great Urswick is in a great location just at the southern end of the lakes, giving easy access to both major sightseeing attractions and good walking. The village is at the northern end of a small tarn and has two pubs within a couple of minutes walk from the cottage - The General Burgoyne also serves excellent food. The market town of Ulverston is close by, with a good selection of tea rooms and cafés. Although there are major supermarkets in Barrow, the local chain Booths has a big store on the edge of Ulverston, which is every bit as good. We would definitely stay here again when we visit the lakes next time.
The location of the cottage was central to all the places we wanted to visit around the lakes. The cottage was well equipped and very homely. The cottage was comfortable and was a good place to relax after a long day of touring the lakes. The owners made us feel very welcome and were helpful with information and places to visit and see. I will definitely stay at this cottage again when we visit the lake district next.
Anyone finding fault with this property must be very "picky." The house is a credit to everyone involved.
Everything about the house was great, and very quiet. The owners were very helpful and pleasant .
Everything is in the cottage that is needed, like home from home. Superb place to stay, fixtures and fittings perfect. Will definitely be back, beautiful surroundings.
The cottage was superb and ideal for a romantic getaway. The village itself was lovely with the locals being very friendly towards us. The owner of the cottage was extremely helpful. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. Hope to go again.
The cottage was a lovely, warm, relaxing place to stay. It was close to the coast and not far to places such as Ambleside. Ulverston is a lovely town to saunter around. The cottage had everything we needed and more. The kitchen had everything we needed! Overall a perfect cottage for a perfect stay.
We particularly liked the peace and quiet of the area, and the easy access to Ulverston and the south lakes. There was a lovely walk from the cottage up to Birkrigg Common, where the view over Morcambe Bay was stunning.
The accomodation was excellent. I have stayed in a lot of holiday cottages and usually they are not quite as good as the photos. In this case the cottage was far better than the photos. It was excellent. Warm, comfortable and had been well thought out. It was also very well equipped. The bathroom turned out to be the best past, a lovely surprise. Fantastic location. I am a person who like variety but I would certainly thing of coming again. The owners where very welcoming but not intrusive. Thank you. An excellent week.
Very peaceful location, 5 min drive to Ulverston. Comfortable cottage.
The cottage was warm, cosy and very peaceful. We live in a very quiet area in Dorset, so it is always a concern that our holiday accommodation may not be as quiet as at home. We need not have had any concerns regarding The Crook. The owner and his daughter were very friendly. The scenery was magnificent and the weather, kind to us.
Warm, cosy cottage with everything you can possibly need and more. Beautiful surroundings, quiet for a good nights sleep, but with lots to do and see close by!
Beautiful cottage in a beautiful peaceful place, a lovely place to take a break!
Fantastic holiday. Great for walking. Amazing views. Lovely cottage, would strongly recommend.
Everything we needed was in the cottage. Its location was perfect for touring the area.
This was a perfect place for our get away to the Lakes. Although it is on the edge of the lake district it is in a lovely location surrounded by rolling hills and open countryside. Set in an ideal village location there is plenty to do all around. Within a few minutes you are into the traditional lakeland setting and all the well known beauty spots are within easy travelling distance. There are two lovely village pubs one of which was an awarding winning pub for food and is well worth a visit. Our hosts were warm and welcoming and the cottage was 5 star quality.
The cottage was five star and the owners very friendly and helpful without being overwhelming. The village was quaint and the people very friendly. The two pubs were welcoming and the food in the Gasgoine was excellent - would recommend this cottage/location to anyone.
