Reviews

Overall we had a great time at the barn, it is super spacious and perfect for a large family. The actual barn itself is lovely, with old features mixed with modern. The showers are great and powerful and you are left clean towels as an extra touch. It is super clean and no issues on that front at all. The hot tub is lovely however it would be nice if there was some form of shelter during the Winter months. The hot tub didn't have much lighting either so it was really dark in the evenings which was from 3pm as we visited in December. There isn't much to do other than Rhayader 10 mins away so we made our own fun and had a good time overall. In terms of negatives I would say that there were a few. Firstly, as we entered the barn it was SO hot and there was no option to turn the heating down. We had to go around to each radiator and turn it down as the heating is on a timer and uncontrollable. Secondly, you are in the middle of a working farm so it doesn't smell great outside. We wasn't 100% aware that this was on a fully working farm and probably wouldn't have booked if we knew. There was almost always a car/tractor parked up working on the farm which isn't great for privacy in the hot tub. We didn't get much sleep over the 3 days as there was a gate on the farm which was open and kept banging constantly, it sounded like someone in the house! We tried to tie this shut but failed at doing so, however, we shouldn't have to do this! We were kept up at night quite a lot by a mixture of this and really loud mooing from the cows outside. The beds are also super creaky so would wake up if turning over in bed. Overall I would say it's a great stay here if you are easily pleased as there was some positives but for us I would say the negatives outweigh the positives and would look at another property next time and therefore wouldn't return. Although it can't be helped that this is a working farm, there are some points that could be changed ie. attention to detail that would make this a more enjoyable stay.

When we first arrive at the holiday house, we had NO WATER in the showers or in the toilets. We have called the owner, and he first says that they have run out of water supply, and they are working to get water for tomorrow. After 24 hours there was still no water in the house. We were 2 families with small kids, we couldn’t bath them, we didn’t have water to wash ourselves. We have called the owner again and they say “it’s the whether – we can’t do anything about it” So, we have asked them nicely to find us a solution to use shower nearby (they could easily rent us a b&b nearby just for showers or to give us some other solutions) but they IGNORED us. as we saw we can’t continue like that our holidays anymore, we have asked them nicely to refund us the money and so we can go somewhere else. They refused the give us back the money and they start shouting at us over the phone. 5 days after we arrived they found out that they have a problem with the boiler. They said they have sent someone to fix it so we waited another day. A day later, we left the premises as we had no other choice, we didn’t have normal showers for 6 days, and the kids were crying that they want to go back to a normal house with water.

Just spent 4 days here the cottage is lovley very spacious a lot more bigger than it looks on the photos very clean.wasnt disturbed by the farmers doing their work around the farm the only issue was probably the flies which is understandable due to the location but the cottage provide fly strips and zippers would definitely come back again

It's in the middle of a farm and as an animal lover I expected to love this however, as a real working farm, you are going to see sheep thrown about onto trucks outside your kitchen window, you are going to see dead sheep if you walk around the farm. The barn itself was nice, could've been cleaner but was alright, simple things were broken like the chain on the bath plug had been replaced with a bobby pin, upstairs toilet flush had something wrong with it, it also lacked some basic items like a scissors ect... The hotub was lovely, stayed clean all week with 11 people jumping in and out. All in all, it was alright.

Just returned from a weeks stay at this holiday let... as a party of 11 of us we found this location to be a good base for surrounding activities and sight seeing. When we first saw the reviews we were sceptical and slightly worried at what we may have booked altho on arrival had no problems with the owners infact we saw a few workers who all seemed pleasant. Work on the farm did start around 8.30 but we are all early birds anyway and quite enjoyed watching all the activity from the house.. House/barn is large and spacious and the hot tub is lovely and was maintained daily or every other day.. The property does have signs of wear and tear but most holiday lets do.. Rhayader is 3 miles away and we enjoyed a sunday carvery in the lamb and flag pub... a chippy tea and a nice Chinese, the town also has free parking and a spar supermarket. The house photos can be misleading but you are on a working farm and do have 3 other farm buildings/barns around you... we found this no issue and still had a good view of the hills.. The house inside was minimal but did have most things you need, our only issue was no tumble dryer so we had trouble drying the kids clothes and a shortage of cutlery seen as their was 11 of us. All in all we had a good time and kids loved the wifi speed and the tub... Thank you for our stay A Roberts & D Till

Looks great at the pictures, however, in reality this cottage is in the middle of the farm. Tractors around, farm with animals on the left hand side and piles of cow dung everywehre. House is spacious and could fit a big family or group of friends. Two cleaners came in the monring to check on the jacuzzi, we didnt like the fact that people come over to the property without any notice. Host is quite rude and we didn't feel welcome there.

Booked a cottage for our wedding anniversary. Had a very bad experience. Simply horrified the way we were treated by Sykes Cottages and the Owner. After first night we stayed we had argument with the owner. He became extremely aggressive leading the threats against my husband and I. Our daughter was frightened and would not move from room. We feel so let down and poor little girl heartbroken that she couldnt spend weekend as it had been planned. House clean enough. Nor sure about beds though as it looks like they had bugs. Every morning my daughter and I would wake up with rash all over our bodies. Sykes "customer service" and management team have been completely ineffectual and just wasted our time on the phone having done nothing to help us. I believe they need some training or, they are in the wrong profession. DO NOT stay here, even if its the last cottage on earth. Better to go join the homeless down on the corner of the street, than to deal with such an Owner or Sykes Cottages.
