Set in the beautiful North Pennines town of Middleton-on-Teesdale, Kirkcarrion Cottage is a charming mid-terrace stone cottage ideal for a couple looking to explore the excellent surrounding walking country. The cottage is uniquely named after the local area as inspiration - Kirkcarrion is a copse of pine trees, surrounded by a stone wall, on a hilltop near Middleton-in-Teesdale; the trees were planted in the Victorian period and cover what is said to be the burial place of a Bronze Age chieftain. The property features a reverse-level layout, beginning with an impressive super-king-size bed in the ground-floor bedroom, with zip/link features able to make it a twin room to suit your holiday. Next to the bedroom is the shower room, a neat space with cleverly placed fittings including a walk-in shower and basin with storage beneath, as well as a washer/dryer. Head upstairs and relax in the lovely open-plan living space beneath the vaulted apex ceiling, with exposed beams adding character and charm to the cottage. Enjoy views out to the open and rolling fields beyond as you settle into your evening, making use of the kitchen space which has a Sage Smart cooker, two-ring induction hob, a microwave and a fridge/freezer. A breakfast bar with stools offers dining for two, and the sitting area is home to a sofa, armchair and a wall-mounted small TV. Dine out in Middleton-in-Teesdale at the Forresters Hotel and Restaurant, or try The Teesdale Hotel, with a local coffee shop, Café 1618 providing a place for afternoon tea after a hearty ramble. Visit one of the most impressive waterfalls in England at High Force Waterfall which drops nearly 70 feet into a plunge pool, surrounded by a forest with walking paths, it makes a wonderful stop on a walk. Follow the River Tees south to find Low Force Waterfall, the smaller sibling, coming down the valley back into Middleton-in-Teesdale. Walkers will be delighted with the choice of peaks and fells to traverse, including Mickle Fell, High Cup Nick, Hilton Fell and Fendrith Hill. Visit the castle that gives its name to the bustling market town of Barnard Castle, a 12th Century fortress with fantastic views over the Tees Gorge, it is home to a 'sensory garden' as well with many scented plants and tactile objects.
