Northallerton 6 miles. Set in a quiet rural farming area in the tiny hamlet of Birkby just six miles north of the bustling market town of Northallerton, is this superb period cottage. Behind the property is an historic 18th century century listed church. Dating back to the late 19th century, this property has been extended and renovated into a stylish and contemporary holiday home for friends and families, whilst still managing to retain some of its original features such as the brick inglenook fireplace. You can enjoy a relaxing evening together as a family in the sitting room and take advantage of the provided TV and DVD player and bring all your favourite film classics to watch. Walk through the open-plan living space, where you can curl up with your loved ones and unwind, cook up some delicious meals in the well-equipped kitchen or gather at the dining table, which extends to seat seven comfortably. This makes a wonderful social space for the whole family to dine together with a pleasant outlook over the large sloping garden. We have just returned from the most fantastic getaway. You advertise it as a garden but my word it's far more than that. Totally enclosed very well maintained and brilliant even for the smallest of dogs could not to escape. The price for the rental of this beautiful property is amazing. Upstairs is immaculate. The rooms are very large and the beds are super comfortable (and I am fussy). Yes there is a train line very close. No I didn't count how many there were each day. Because quite frankly, we barely noticed them. Yes the kitchen is on the smaller side, but it is linked to a very spacious dining area. In my opinion if your plan is to be cooking a 5 course meal for 6 every night, then you are holidaying all wrong! The cottage is central to so many wonderful sites around the area which are just a short drive away. Absolute loved every minute and we will definitely return next year thank you.
Without doubt the main attraction of this property is the large attractive gardens which every Review praises. The cottage itself lacks a downstairs toilet and the kitchen is far too small at 7ft x 7ft. The pots and pans are well past their sell by date (we bought a wok and frying pan from Tesco’s in Northallerton) The upstairs is delightful with two bathrooms and very spacious bedrooms The gravel patio is a sun trap but has never been tidied up. Upon arrival, the first thing you notice is an old barbeque and grills left strewn about in the corner. This gave the impression of neglect. However, once you have arrived on holiday, you must make the best of it! Birkby is well placed to enjoy North Yorkshire and we Visited Leyburn, Hawes, Durham, Yarm, and Harrogate easily. We used Manor cottage as a base from which we travelled every day, so we did not spend the days in the cottage or gardens. It should be noted that the East Coast Mainline Railway tracks are close enough to hear the trains going by on their way to and from the North to the South. The Station guard at Northallerton told us that there are approximately twenty-two trains per hour! This was not mentioned on the website. To be fair this did not spoil our stay. The Pub at East Cowton “ The Beeswing” is good for food and drink. The cottage is picturesque but rests on its Laurels. It is very tired. I would not choose to stay there again.
We state's in this property in late August 2021. It is a lovely house set in a beautiful garden. It is found in farm land inconveniently an hour from literally everything yiu would want to see, resulting in us doing a thousand miles while up there. We had additional guests of an unreasonable amount of flies which meant were were unable to open windows for ventilation. Given its civid times and venitaltiin a must with two families coming together we felt that there could've been fly screens on the window. We also noted there were no matress protectors which was a bit remote in any time bit especially now. A few days in we also realised the property had fleas, to the point they were jumping in the bath. Utterly disgusting 8n leaving We contacted the owner who seemed quite reasonable and assured us that a pest control was going in, albeit too late for us., and that he would contact us (I had complained that I would incur cost to de-fpea my dog, spray my car, qnd launder the feather duvet I bought. Instead he contacted the management company to allege he needed additional cleaning and would be seeking to charge its. He supplied his evidence which consisted of a bit of fluff on the rug, a sweet wrappers in the floor and a dental brush that had been left. He has been asked to supply invoices for his allegation but has failed to do so. Needless to say we won't be visiting again
