Lanreath is a village in South East Cornwall, five miles west of Looe. Lanreath is rural in character with a local shop and Post Office as well as a parish church. There are a number of ghost stories associated with Lanreath. The best-known features a ghost in black driving a coach pulled by a headless horse. The sandy Looe Beach adjoins the pier and is very popular with families because of its safe shallow swimming and vast expanse of sand.
Superb location, the Lodge's aspect put you right at the heart of nature and the overall site itself is very well landscaped / designed, with loads of space around the properties. The main windows look out over a stream and woodland area, we would advise buying bird seed and feeding the multitude of visitors (squirrels, jays, nuthatches, etc etc etc!). The Lodge is well-equipped, the only additional items we bought were scissors and pint glasses. The heating took a little getting used to, but was absolutely fine once understood. We didn't need to trouble anyone at Sykes / Chartered Oak for anything whilst we were there. The Old Mill served good quality food but seemed to regularly run out of various dishes and the atmosphere was a little quiet (but we acknowledge it was February and in the midst of Storm Dennis etc!). Would highly recommend.
We‘ve just got back from a week at no 6 for Christmas. We’d previously stayed at no 1 and had a lovely week so we booked for Christmas. Check in was fine but we couldn’t get the heating to work so the handyman was sent. He got it working but for the next few days it came on at random times and we were having to get up in the night to turn it off. The handyman came round again with a plumber and the thermostat was changed so we could control it properly. I had asked Sykes if the property had certain items like champagne flutes, cling film and baking trays and they told me it didn’t so we bought the bits we needed with us, only to find that it was well equipped with kitchen stuff. However the two salt shakers were completely empty and we had to buy dishwasher salt and rinse aid, anti bac spray and washing up liquid. They provided some dishwasher tablets in the welcome pack but they’re not much use without salt and rinse aid. This should be something that is checked every month. On arrival we also discovered no batteries in the remote so we had to ask for some. Again, that should be checked before new check ins. I don’t think the floor is cleaned very well each week - there was a line of fluff in the bathroom which looks like they mop without even hoovering and there was a lot of fluff around the sofa and coffee table so I had to get the hoover out. There’s no light outside so if you’re using the hot tub on a dark evening, take a torch. And if you want to use the frying pan for anything, it’s terrible and everything sticks so I’d suggest taking your own. If you’re heading out for dinner I highly recommend the Old Sail Loft and Smugglers Cott in Looe and if you want to take your dog to the beach then Seaton is worth a visit.
Booked this lodge as it had the hot tub and we weren’t disappointed. Beds lovely and comfy, hot tubs amazing and even the food from the old mill was good! We plan on returning.
