Loved this cottage. Clean, spacious, nicely decorated and furnished. Stayed for a weekend with 10 other women. Very relaxing especially with the free use of the Spa at North Lakes Hotel. Lovely welcome pack. Highly recommend.

We have just returned from a weekend break in this cottage. We were looking for somewhere to stay around the north lakes area and found the cottage. Whilst it is on a working farm, this makes absolutely no difference at all and the children loved seeing the sheep on a morning. The cottage is an extremely high standard throughout. Large comfy beds in all rooms and modern bathrooms. We were a family of ten (6 adults four children) and there was ample space for everyone. Especially loved the long table so we could all dine together. On arrival, we were received a wonderful welcome basket, fresh bread, eggs, bacon, milk and wine! - a lovely gesture. The living area has a lovely wood burner for an evening, and there is a little ‘snug’ play area for the children. The location was great for a short drive to Ullswater. Would highly recommend for a family gathering and would stay again.

My wife booked this large cottage for our Christmas holiday 22 to 29 Dec 17, with our extended family and grandchildren. Son and daughters and respective spouses/partners came from North and South (We live near Aberdeen). I spent a good time looking through the excellent website to make sure we understood the facilities and location. It all was clearly described and looked ideal. When we arrived it was a real delight to find that the house and facilites were even better than described. There was one of the best welcome packs we have ever arrived to, and there were fresh red roses on the table. The heating system was available on demand at all times and there was a big box outside the kitchen with a very good supply of dry logs for the woodburning stove. Much appreciated! It was really heart-warming to arrive in the evening after a 6 hour drive in the dark and find that the owners had switched on a beautiful array of Christmas lights around the cottage. My 2 y/o grandchildren when they arrived were wide-eyed! I think we may do the same thing again next Christmas if I can get a booking.

This was a fantastic holiday home which was clean, well equipped and with loads of space. The owners could not be more helpful. We will definitely be back and would recommend to others.

We were delighted with the cottage and there was plenty of room for the 12 of us. We loved staying at Chimney Gill and hope to return soon.

Everything was excellent. The house and furnishings were comfortable, coordinated and spotless and the welcome was exceptional. The central heating was so good we didn't bother with the fire. welcome pack was very generous and everything else one could need was available. The wifi was as good as I am used to in London despite the house being relatively isolated. Staying at lambing time was perfect and every was very helpful in telling us how the farm worked.

We stayed here for a birthday and Mother's Day. The layout of the ground floor (a big L shape) is perfect for social family life. Nice sized bedrooms with massive beds, with 2/3 rooms have good views. Kitchen is well equipped and real fire very welcome. The owner/farmer let us in to see the young lambs and was friendly throughout. No complaints and an excellent stay.

The accommodation was blissfully quiet and in an ideal location for travelling to places in The Lakes, Northumberland or even the Borders of Scotland. The owners were particularly thoughtful, helpful and friendly.

Chimney Gill is a nicely-equipped, cosy cottage which has been well maintained by our welcoming hosts Tracey and Graham (with help from Joyce). Considering that the property is situated on a working farm near a road that feeds the M6 it is a blissfully quiet location. There is plenty of room for large family gatherings and the quality of the decor is excellent. Upon arrival we were thoughtfully provided with a generous Welcome Pack which was well received. The bulk of our provisions for the week were delivered to the door by ASDA - it takes all the hassle out of settling in! We found the additional fridge and freezer in the connecting outhouse to be very handy for bulk food and milk overflow at the beginning of our stay. Everyone in our group had a great time and didn't want to return home which is always the sign of an excellent holiday. Thank you Tracey, Graham and Joyce.

Chimney Gill was a beautiful cottage which we couldn't fault at all. The owners made us all feel welcome and the children got to feed a lamb. Overall space for the number of guests was excellent and we would certainly recommend.

Set on a working farm on n e edge of Lake District national park. Accessible by good roads, and not tortuous like some lakes single trackers. We were 13- 6 adults and 7 grandkids and managed to fit in fairly easily. Nicely laid out and freshly decorated. Good solid working fittings and everything we needed really. Family were all very welcoming but not intrusive. Were happy to show us the lambs and chat about the farm. Welcome pack now becoming standard at good self catering these days but a kind touch nonetheless. We all enjoyed ourselves, the kids maybe a bit too much! They'd have stayed in the house all day if it were up to them.

Chimney Gill cottage was a fantastic place to stay. The living areas were spacious and it was such a comfortable stay for all our group, including the baby. The whole house was beautifully decorated and was so cosy. The owners were really helpful and friendly, and the welcome pack was a nice touch. The attention to detail here was fantastic - we can't wait to come back!!

Chimney Gill is a wonderful place to stay and easily accommodates twelve. We had six adults and six children and never felt like we were in each others way when cooking or relaxing. All the amenities and the games that are there even gave us something to do on a rainy day and the use of the spa in Penrith is fantastic for such days too. We would all heartily recommend. The garden gave us room to have a games of rounders and cricket. The children made good use of the garden at the end of every day. Overall it is a great place to stay with the lakes in easy access.

Rated by Mr Smith reviewed on 9th August 2014

It really was a lovely cottage with excellent facilities. It was a family break for 12 of us including 3 pre school children and a baby and everything you would need was catered for. The children loved the little fenced in garden which was safe for them to play in, they especially loved looking at the animals and sitting on the farmers tractor. A real family home from home.

Rated by Mrs Dodson reviewed on 31st May 2014

This was a superb holiday let, it suited our needs exactly. The property was exactly as described, fully prepared even to a bouquet of flowers and basic foodstuffs. The three families had ample room to play etc. The farm was extremely accommodating towards the children with new lambs and tractor rides. We certainly would recommend it to others.

The friendliness of the owners was lovely and added to the charm of the holiday cottage. The farmer offered to show us round his farm which the children looked forward to all week and was brilliant! Chimney Gill was a lovely base for day trips and it was always a joy to come back to. We had two couples with six children between 18 months and eleven years and everyone loved the space in the house which had such an unexpectedly high standard of interior design.

Rated by Mrs Young reviewed on 1st June 2013

This house is perfect for a family or group get-together. It has plenty of living space with a large table and well-equipped kitchen. The decor is stylish and the atmosphere comfortable. Bathrooms and kitchen are immaculate and the bedlinen crisp and towels fluffy. We were given a substantial welcome pack with tea, eggs, jam, milk etc. The location is quiet, on a beautiful working farm, but not far from the main road. The owners were there to meet us and were very welcoming and friendly. To top it all, a pet lamb wandered into our garden each day to eat the grass.

We stayed at Chimney Gill for a long weekend to celebrate a 70th birthday. Six adults and four kids (aged 10 months to 8 years). The house is just beautiful decorated to a very high standard. The open plan living space suited a big family gathering wonderfully, with the added den room off the side for kids to watch Dvd's. All bathrooms and bedrooms are very spacious and immaculate. The owner couldn't have been more helpful. The most generous welcome basket met us on arrival. And the access given to the farm to the kids made their weekend. We had a superb weekend and would heartily recommend a visit to others.

This cottage had it all for us. We were two American families coming to explore the Lakes District for the first time and the accommodations were above and beyond what we expected/hoped for. The cottage was newly renovated and outfitted perfectly. The bathrooms were luxurious, the beds perfectly comfortable, and the furnishings had everything we could think of .... and more (games, videos, all cutlery to make every breakfast/dinner at home). The hosts were also incredibly kind and gracious. They took the time to let us explore their farm as our kids were incredibly interested in learning more. All around we had a lovely vacation and much of it because our home base was such an enjoyable place to return to at the end of a day. Many thanks for the great visit. We hope to return some day.
