Location Details

Situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, mid way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District is the attractive market town of Kirkby Lonsdale. This charming and historic town was mentioned in the 1086 Domesday Book and holds a market charter from the 13th Century. This market continues on a weekly basis every Thursday and offers a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive shops in the town as well as the many 17th and 18th Century buildings. The picturesque Lune Valley was popular with the artist Turner and is host to the medieval Devil's Bridge that spans the river. There is a wealth of quiet country lanes in the area that are ideal for exploring by car, bike or even on horseback. There are also a number of other activities including golf, tennis, riding, fishing as well as a variety of riverside and country walks.

From heather-clad moors and limestone scars, to market towns and the steady pace of country life - the sublime Dales await you! Where else in Britain is it as satisfying to sit and do nothing as it is to explore the numerous pursuits on offer?

Reviews

We stayed as a family party of 12 for New Year in Beckside Cottage and Old Stables. In Beckside, the lounge was comfortable with an effective wood burner and very good heating system. We were a party of 2 adults, 2 teenagers and a 3 and 5 year old. For travelling purposes,we kept clothing to a minimum as the property said it was supplied with towels and a washing machine. We had one small bath towel approx 120x60cm each and were made to feel unreasonable asking for more. We did get 6 more small towels, to be shared amongst the 12 of us. Also, when we arrived, we were presented with a clothes airer and told " you will need this, the washer is broken". Fortunately, we were able to take our washing next door to The Old Stables but it was not ideal. I feel that we should have been informed of the washing machine situation before we left home, in order to bring more clothes and towels........anyone with teenagers and under 5's will understand!! We did, however, enjoy our stay and the kids loved it.

Fabulous cottage, lovely lounge with wood burner, kitchen has all you need but is a bit of a tight squeeze with 6 around the table! Bedrooms are comfortable, one is a little dark. We stayed bank holiday weekend and we were a party of 4 adults and 2 children. We really enjoyed our stay, cosy evenings with the fire lit, lovely countryside surrounding it. We really enjoyed our weekend and is a perfect base for exploring the Lune valley or just relaxing in front of the fire with a glass of wine (or cup of tea!). Would recommend

We really enjoyed our short break at Beckside. It is situated in a quiet rural valley and Kirkby Lonsdale is easily accessible with its shops galleries, pub's and restaurants. The excellent facilities at the cottage provided all that we required. We would certainly like to stay there again.

This cottage was utterly charming, cosy, tastefully decorated, and within reasonable drive to the walking we wanted to do in the Lake District and the Dales.

Just returned from a week at Beckside Cottage. The location of the cottage is in a rural countryside area, directions from the owners were great, and on arrival we felt at home straight away the house was warm and welcoming, it is very ,very clean and is presented in a high standard,it is well equipped and apart from a soup ladle we had everything we needed. At night it was greatly to have the log fire crackle as we spend some good family time together ,eating ,chatting ,reading, and being away from the rat race. Thanks to all at Beckside Cottage

Beckside Cottage is so cosy and full of lovely original features. The wood panelling in the bedrooms made them feel very special! What a treat to stay somewhere so beautifully kept.

Without hesitation would stay in this lovely cottage again. Adjacent to other cottages but with its own entrance you were unaffected by the other guests. Beautifully decorated with good quality furnishings and wood burner, we felt 'embraced' by this house! It was a much needed weekend escape after the death of my Mother in law and so as a family just needed a relaxed and quiet time away. The dog was happy with walks along the lane next to the house and trips in the car to the Lakes too. Have discussed returning there for a 'girls escape weekend'! Don't hesitate with this one - just book it - one of the best cottages that I have ever stayed in!

This was my first booking online and with Sykes. I will be using this company again, the whole process from start to finish has been first class. The accommodation was lovely, the location in between the Lakes and Dales could not have been better. The cottage has been lovingly restored using modern and traditional styles that work well together it is situated with three other buildings all equally loving restored. I would recommend this cottage and like to go back and see the final restoration works. A really great time was had by myself, husband and my parents.
