Or, for a more gentle climb, head 4 miles north for Binsey where panoramic views of the Solway Firth, Dumfries and Galloway and the Isle of Man can be enjoyed. Home to an abundance of wildlife including ospreys and cormorants, Bassenthwaite Lake is a wonderful spot for walking, cycling and picnicking. After a busy day, return to the local pub in Bassenthwaite for a bite to eat or sample a local tipple at the Lakes Distillery, just 3 miles away. Inside, this cottage is charming and traditional, with exposed beams, antique furniture and lots of homely touches.
