For a good hike, find the start of the 9.5 mile Coledale Horseshoe loop close to home in Braithwaite (3 miles). Winding across hills and Wainwrights, this is a great walk with many picturesque scenic spots along the way. Just a mile from your door is the Keswick Launch Ticket Office where you can book to hop on a boat and explore the lakeside villages and towns of Derwentwater.
